"I am not" is its synonym. "Root" refers to the end part. That which has no end is the ultimate of the boundless, it is boundless. "Unsurpassed" means that because there is nothing higher than this, it is unsurpassed. For this very reason, it has no similar example, so it is unparalleled. "Completely dwells in all of space" means that because it appears in all things like the moon. "City" refers to the mandala. Because the self-nature that arises in this way is constantly present, it is called "the ultimate of the unchanging," which is a synonym for "constant." If asked, how is it the ultimate of the unchanging? The answer is, it has been said "the ultimate of the beginningless" and so on. Because all the Tathagatas equal to the dust particles of all the world realms have appeared and constantly abide in samsara. The word "again" indicates that it is so even if it has not appeared. Abiding means abiding by the self-nature that has arisen now. Therefore, it is called "the city is the ultimate of the unchanging." If that abiding place abides in all of space, then it is equal to space. If asked, how can it be filled with everything by the incomplete individual discriminating minds? The answer is, it has been said "by the equality of all perfections." This is a synonym for "meditating on suchness." "The sky without end or center" refers to the sky that has no end or center, that is this city. If it is said that there is no end and no center, then does it not have a center either? The answer is, it has been said "if its center is examined." Because many centers have been examined, the term "center" is used. If asked, how can one measure and examine the center of this part in relation to the equal parts of the four sides? The answer is, therefore, it is said that examining through the samadhi of the union of hand seals is its very center. From this unchanging self-nature, the teacher should examine the central part with the great hand seal samadhi of glorious Vajrasattva. Then what should be done? The answer is, it has been said "there" and so on. There, the teacher should make a large lotus with a stem, that is, with a trunk, in the center of that abiding place.

So, what are the characteristics? "Various petals completely cover." It is said like this, because it has blue, yellow, red, green, and white petals, it is completely covered. Why is it completely covered with five colors? "Everything is pure," and so on, it is said like this, because the great Bodhicitta, like a mirror, equality, individual observation, the wisdom nature of accomplishing activities, the venerable Vajrasattva's everything becomes a pure seat, so that lotus is like that. Therefore, because it shows the complete purity of various wisdoms, it is various colors. Then it is drawing lines, "Then draw lines," it is said like this, according to the method mentioned before, the disciple makes all the deities of the mandala more abiding, at the time of sunrise, the master, according to the ritual mentioned before, wraps the thread twice around the mandala, and then draws the lines. What is the size? "In terms of the size of all of space, the size is immeasurable." It is said like this, because this is the same as space, therefore, it cannot be determined by rulers and other sizes, this is the final conclusion. Now, with "no inequality," and so on, it explains its shape, that is, the four directions of east, south, west, and north, the four corners with lines on the four sides. Why? "No inequality," and so on, it is said like this, with the attitude of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, it is free from inequality and inexhaustibility such as harmful thoughts, so it is without inequality. Thus, because there is no inequality, this mandala is square. "Mindfulness and the sense faculties are the four doors." It is said like this, this mandala has the four doors of east, south, west, and north, so it is the four doors. Mentioning mindfulness is to show that the root powers of faith, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom become the way of the four doors, from here one will enter the city of liberation, so it is said like this. "The four foundations of meditation." It is said like this, this is to show that it has the first dhyana, the second dhyana, the third dhyana, and the fourth dhyana, so it is the four foundations.
