Then, from the placed vajra knot, raise the two thumbs, place them overlapping each other, and make them like lotus petals, this is the mudra of the place of Vajrasattva. If asked what this is called? The answer is, "It is said to be the Buddha lotus." Because it is the form of Vajrasattva closely marked by the lotus. "The two thumbs are equal to the vajra," etc., indicates the mudra of the place of the Vajra King. In the way it appears in one's own mantra, all four mudras are indicated by a single vajra knot. How is it indicated? "The two thumbs are the vajra," meaning that the two vajra thumbs are placed overlapping each other, making the vajra in the shape of a tip, the thumbs become the vajra, this is the first. Then, bending the right index finger becomes a hook, this is the hook mudra, the second. Extending the left index finger is the sword mudra, the third. Thus, this indicates "The index finger makes a hook and sword." "The two little fingers are separated," this is slightly indicated from below on the forehead. "The middle and ring fingers make a lotus," it means that the tips of the middle and ring fingers are made into a lotus mudra in the shape of an unopened lotus, that is the meaning of "The middle and ring fingers make a lotus." Thus, four mudras are indicated, they are the vajra, hook, sword, and lotus. "Joining the palms together tightly," where "tightly joining" means binding. "Twisting" means that straightening the palms to the left is the tenth. "Bending the thumb" means bending the thumb. Then what does it do? "Grasping the index finger with the index finger," it means grasping the left hand with the right index finger.
