Emphasize the yoga of abandoning the object of focus, and it is taught that one should contemplate for a long time. If, no matter how one practices, it does not grant accomplishment, then the method of killing the deities with fierce means, including practice with and without focus, has been explained. Now, in order to show the distinctions of the deities, the essence, the mudra, the mantra, and the vidya-mantra, therefore, therein, also from the distinctions of the Tathagatagarbha, the most excellent merit and the accumulation of wisdom, etc., are taught as the cause for pleasing the deities, and these should also be known by the mantra practitioner, etc. The term "Tathagata" refers to the five Tathagatas. The term "essence, etc." refers to the essence of each of them, and the mudra, mantra, and vidya included by the word "etc." The phrase "from the distinctions of those" means the distinctions of those that are separated one by one from the essence, etc., and established by changing the names. The word "also" is a remaining word, meaning the most excellent merit and the accumulation of wisdom, etc. The term "most excellent" is synonymous with "becoming a Buddha." The accumulation of merit and wisdom, etc., are the two accumulations of causes for becoming a Buddha, and that is also because it is accumulated in three countless eons, so it is uncommon to all, therefore it is the most excellent. "Etc." refers to any other pure imprints that are in accordance with that part. The term "meaning" refers to the meaning of accumulating and perfecting the two accumulations of causes for becoming a Buddha, just as one becomes a Buddha, the meaning of the essence, etc., here also truly knowing and proclaiming the meaning of the distinctions of the essence, mudra, secret mantra, and vidya, etc., thereby showing the tantra for pleasing the deities. It is also taught that those distinctions of the essence, etc., must also be done by the mantra practitioner. The term "another most excellent" refers to connecting from the following text, becoming the meaning of the perfect accumulation of excellent merit and the most excellent accumulation of wisdom, etc., just as one becomes a Buddha in the fruition, here also becoming a Buddha and attaining accomplishment.

The cause of arising is understanding the distinctions of essence and so forth. Therefore, just as one understands the distinctions of essence, mudra, mantra, and vidya, by knowing and comprehending these distinctions, one can also please the deities. Because this is the cause of pleasing the deities and ultimately attaining Buddhahood, one should explain the causes of pleasing the deities, namely essence and so forth. These should also be understood by the mantra practitioner. Therefore, one should explain the meaning of essence and so forth, and it should be truly understood and comprehended by the practitioner who is skilled in mantras. Others say that one can attain Buddhahood merely by perfecting the two accumulations, just as after attaining Buddhahood, one will again explain the meaning of the two accumulations. The meaning of essence and so forth is not that they are not deities, and the cause of pleasing these deities is merely knowing and being familiar with the distinctions of essence and so forth. Therefore, one should explain the causes of pleasing the deities, namely essence and so forth, and say that these should be understood by the mantra practitioner. If merely manifesting this form can do this, then can other methods not do this? Because, 'If one understands these and begins to practice them,' and so forth is said. For what reason? Because of the reason that will appear below. For what reason should one understand these distinctions? Because after knowing and understanding the distinctions of essence and so forth, if one begins to practice them as one understands them, by increasing these, one can perfect the accumulations and purify the obscurations, and one will not be delayed for too long, and one will become a vessel for accomplishment. Therefore, one must understand these. Therefore, if one is skilled in understanding the distinctions of the nature of essence and so forth, then, through this reason, in order to fully know and understand the nature of essence, mudra, mantra, and vidya, that is, the distinctions of nature, one should explain the characteristics of these. That is to say, one should separately explain what the characteristics of essence and so forth are, this is the meaning that is said. Among these, through one's own vidya, the meaning of the most supreme merit and wisdom accumulations and so forth is, countless eons
