Commentary on Entering the Meaning of Tantra, by Padma Vajra. Commentary on Entering the Meaning of Tantra, By Padma Vajra. In Sanskrit: Tantrartha-avatara-vyakhyanam. In Tibetan: Commentary on Entering the Meaning of Tantra. Homage to glorious Vajrasattva! The Buddha, the Bhagavan, possessing all-knowing wisdom and great compassion, having first generated the mind of enlightenment, possessing the intention to accomplish the ultimate benefit of self and others. Having exhausted all obscurations and perfected all accumulations, having attained a body like a vajra, pervading all like the great sky, abiding in the nature of the inconceivable, the state of great non-discrimination. Even so, in the past, while abiding in the conduct of enlightenment, by the power of the strong habitual tendencies of vowing to fully ripen all sentient beings, and by the power of aspiration arising from conditions, manifesting the form of a wisdom body in successive order, as well as the formless, and manifesting the way in which the two are related, opening the doors of many sacred Dharmas to fortunate beings, either successively or simultaneously, ripening, liberating, and ripening the continuums of those to be tamed, and causing each to attain the ultimate fruit of their respective views. Others ask: What is the nature of the teacher who teaches the Dharma in this way? What are the specific teachings that are taught? To whom are they taught? Where are they taught? In what manner or method are they taught? Answer: There are three kinds of teachers: Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and Nirmanakaya. There are also three kinds of Dharma: the Characteristic Vehicle, the Outer Vehicle, and the Inner Vehicle. There are also three kinds of retinue: those born from interdependence, those born from aspiration, and those born from wisdom. There are also three kinds of places where the Dharma is taught: on the earth, above the earth, and in the cities of the three skies, as well as in palaces and mansions. There are also three ways of teaching the Dharma: sometimes it is taught by the Dharmakaya, sometimes it is taught by the Sambhogakaya, and sometimes it is taught by the Nirmanakaya. According to the inclinations of beings, the Dharma is taught in such ways. Among these, the great yoga tantra

The "Glorious Compendium of Suchness" and others are said to have been taught by the Sambhogakaya (Enjoyment Body) to the retinue born from wisdom, in places higher than the upper realms. Then, gradually from the abodes of the gods, for those beings in Jambudvipa (the human realm) who have the karma and fortune, through this very door, for the fortunate individuals who are destined to emerge, blessings are bestowed, and through the power of the compilers, blessings are conferred, descending to that place, and there arose those who received the empowerment of Vajradhara (Holder of the Vajra). Moreover, for the beings I am teaching, the noble ones who desire fame are granted the siddhi (accomplishment) that they can realize. Thus, the disciples who are blessed are taught and shown, and these tantras will gradually become known among the disciples, especially to those who are born into the same lineage. When ordinary people obtain the authority of view and conduct, they also practice accordingly, and as it is practiced according to the scriptures, initially signs and omens appear, in the middle all obscurations are exhausted, and finally the Mahamudra (Great Seal) manifests, and it is said that one can attain the fruit in one lifetime. Then, the methods of accomplishment and the texts that explain the meaning, etc., become the distinction of qualities, and as it is said in the scriptures, the Khenpos (abbots/teachers) who are determined as noble, who have entered the realm of the noble, and who have attained the distinction of accomplishment, later only act in the human realm. To accord with them, to please the Wisdom Being, this compilation of the sequential rituals of the practice method is based on the measure of the intention of the teacher Sangye Sangwa (Buddha Guhyapada) himself, and for the future disciples who will surely emerge from this mantra vehicle, it is combined in a way that is appropriate to the order of their faculties. For the sake of benefiting them, from the great yoga tantra of one hundred thousand sections, and the yoga one hundred thousand sections that cut off their disputes, and the "Compendium of Thoughts" which explains the common intention, etc., the arguments that show the meaning in accordance are collected together. From the "Glorious Compendium of Suchness," from the section showing the four great mandalas and the four actions, etc., the first part is stone.
