Ah! The ignorant have no protection whatsoever. By burning with the fire of the emptiness of dharmata, there is nothing that does not become emptiness. Therefore, when the realm of mind itself meets with what is beyond thought, there is no thought whatsoever. Appearance meeting is remembrance, emptiness meeting is non-remembrance, unborn meeting is that itself is unborn. The yogi who has realized, whatever he meets is like a flame spreading in the forest. Knowing with the key instructions of the three liberations, there is neither taking nor abandoning of the various things that appear in the face. All appearances that come upon the face in this way, the root of all dharmas is mind, and mind is emptiness. What is emptiness? It is not an object of thought. What is not an object of thought? It is not something to be meditated upon. Act together with the root of mind, emptiness! Now, the fault of attachment will be shown with the example of a sesame husk. Thinking about it will not liberate you from the three realms. If you think about the experience of power, that is the desire realm; if you think about the mandala of gods and goddesses, that is the form realm; if you think about the peaceful abiding of emptiness, you will be mixed into the formless realm. If the mind thinks of something pleasant, then whatever you are attached to will become the suffering of the three realms. The desire realm that desires happiness, the clear form realm, the non-discriminating formless realm, if you think of any of them, you cannot be separated from them. Cherishing it in your heart, the noble ones know that even from the peak of existence there is suffering, and sentient beings in samsara even see happiness in the resting place of hell. The wise are like eyes, and do not even cling to as much as a sesame husk. The unwise are like the head and body, and see happiness in discrimination. Therefore, the Buddha's teachings say that meditating on emptiness will liberate, but this is for the sake of those who are attached to appearances. If you also become arrogant about emptiness, even the slightest prick of a sesame husk, without thought, you will not realize, only thought will become the cause of samsara, forever.

It only serves to create suffering in vain. Now, the examples of the pig and the elephant will be used to illustrate. This is further divided into two: illustrating with sensory direct perception and yogic direct perception, the example of the pig is without acceptance or rejection, and the example of the elephant is without fear. Thus, establishing sensory direct perception is: when the mind is made to remember anything, and when awareness is directed by the sense faculty of the mind towards an appearance that is without inherent existence, the inseparability of appearance and emptiness is sensory direct perception, and not yogic direct perception. It is said that yogic direct perception is not the present time, but if the venerable lama indicates with symbols, then it is the present time. Instruction through symbols and instruction through words are called instructions; symbols are bodily symbols, verbal symbols, and mental symbols. These should be understood as symbols of appearance, symbols of emptiness, and symbols of no-birth. In words, it is through believing that experiencing memory, experiencing non-memory, seeing no-birth, and transcending the intellect are all true. This is also through four kinds of direct perception. Sensory direct perception is memory, while yogic direct perception transcends the intellect. Similar, similar, similar, yet dissimilar, the pig and the elephant are called Upadesha; Upa means symbol, showing nearness, and desha means place. Furthermore, what the mind cannot do to the mind, what is non-memory, no-birth, and beyond intellect? That is the realm of the Buddha. What is the realm of the Buddha? That is what sentient beings do not meditate on. What is not meditated on by sentient beings? That is the samaya of yogis. So, are sentient beings, yogis, Buddhas, and the nature of reality different? No, the nature of reality is the same, but sentient beings see the conceptual thoughts of memory as ultimate, while yogis see that memory itself is a sudden appearance. Therefore, the appearance of sentient beings is the inseparability of appearance and emptiness, while the inseparability of bliss and emptiness for yogis is not so. Alternatively, understand that appearance is emptiness because it is obscured. Understand that emptiness is appearance because it experiences various things. The inseparability of these two is sensory direct perception, which leads to obtaining liberation.
