Because it does not abide in transcending evil deeds. The reason why the mind and mental factors do not move is that the samadhi like a vajra transcends consciousness, therefore it does not change. That itself is the four dhyanas, so being bound by dhyana, what is the use of that? The reality of the mind is like the sky, and the thoughts arising from the mind are like mist, so they dissipate. If the arising of things is completely pacified like the sky, the arising of things is not independent of the mind, that is, it arises from thoughts, and it arises from no thoughts. What arises beyond abandoning those two? What arises after abandoning things? If it arises from no beginning, from no-birth, then even a sky flower will arise, and all appearances should be understood as sky flowers. Why? Because the sky gradually forms various appearances, so it is a sky flower. Similarly, the nature of mind is like the sky, and the thoughts arising from the mind are like sky flowers, so do not have hope and fear for the practice of thoughts. Therefore, That which is not defiled by thought and non-thought is originally the unborn nature. The symbols of appearance and body, the symbols of language, and the three symbols of consciousness are the symbols of appearance. When emptiness and non-birth are indicated by symbols, today it is realized by the instructions of the venerable Guru Protector. The merit of realization lies in the fact that when no action is intended, the symbols of thoughts of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch are used to indicate that there is no seeing, hearing, touching, thinking, no purity and impurity, no going and coming. Use the symbols of food, drink, wandering, walking, and sitting to indicate. Use the symbols of asking and answering questions to indicate. For idle talk and answers, the nature of mind does not deviate from transcending consciousness, and if it is said to be mind, it will not move from one state. Thus, through the symbols of Mahamudra, the nectar of no birth and no death is immediately realized. Who can obtain the nectar water of the Guru's instructions? The wilderness of samsara is extremely difficult to cross, full of thieves of afflictions, tormented by the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death for countless kalpas, and has not found the sea of the lotus feet of the supreme Guru. Even if found

Seeing delusion as delusion, one does not place it on the crown of the head. One does not drink the nectar of instructions with the ears, nor place it within the lotus of the heart. One does not drink one's fill of the coolness that dispels suffering. What is that like? Like a desolate plain of sorrow, the desolate plain of samsara is extremely difficult to cross. One cannot take by means the lotus lake that is inseparable from the feet of the noble guru. Although one is skilled in the words and terms of sound, measure, scripture, and treatises, it is meaningless. That is because treatises are full of meaning and sorrow. Even though one groans in extreme thirst, one exhausts one's life suffering from thirst in the desert of treatises, like seeing a bee in dry land. The noble guru teaches by signs and methods, not by scripture and treatises. If it is in scripture and treatises, it is not a pith instruction. If it is not in accordance with that, it is a pith instruction. The perfectly correct meaning, that unique pith instruction, is not an object of the mind. Therefore, it cannot be expressed in words. The non-verbal teaching of the guru, the student cannot even conceive of it as being like this. Understanding is an obscuration of knowledge, because it is not the true truth. Non-understanding is an obscuration of affliction. That itself is not the truth of knowledge. Knowledge is also not the truth. Then, relying on the light of knowledge and the knowable, like relying on memory to understand memory, it is not like that. That very non-understanding that arises from understanding is not understood by the student. That is also because all phenomena arise from non-arising, abide from non-abiding, and the taste of nectar arises together with non-cessation. That is also not something where mind shows mind. Mind cannot act on mind. How will anyone show it? Even if one teaches the uncomprehending, one is under the sway of the treatises of sound and measure, and by whose power does one grasp as measure? One is skilled in the terms of discrimination and so forth, but not skilled in the meaning. A fool finds distinctions. At that time, because of not being skilled, one only strives in memory, and therefore one does not become liberated from obscurations. The other is like an untouchable to whom the mind cannot reach. That one revels in the house of untouchables. That is also the mandala of the sun that is purified of the two stains.
