In short, there are three types. The past ripening, the present ripening, and the future ripening. Among them, the past ripening is: due to the accumulation of merit in the past, one now possesses the opportunity to practice the Dharma. The present ripening is: due to relying on the guru in the present, one can now receive the pith instructions from one's own place. The future ripening is: due to integrating the Dharma's seal into practice, one will accomplish the result of "Mahamudra." And the oral instructions for following Mahamudra are seven: Seal, Great, by what is accomplished, what is accomplished, definitely by what is done, what is the name, and the ultimate accomplishment of the result. Among them, "Seal" is the meaning of non-regression, which is the "Seal." There are four types: non-deviation from the union of meaning, non-deviation from the union of example, non-deviation from the union of abiding, and non-deviation from the union of being. Among them, the union of meaning is the union of luminosity and emptiness being inseparable. And luminosity refers to experiencing duality. Emptiness refers to realizing its nature as empty. If so, does it become annihilation? No, it is personally experienced. If because of experience it is not itself, then what is it? It is experiencing that nothing is. Therefore, luminosity and emptiness are the union of being inseparable. In order to dispel the clinging to union and viewing it as duality, it is thus proclaimed. It does not even abide in the state of union and non-duality of its own nature. Therefore, there is neither name nor identification for this, nor can it be indicated as "what is this." The union of example refers to the meaning of bliss and emptiness inseparable, symbolized by the seal from the example, therefore it will not deviate from it. The union of abiding refers to the co-emergent wisdom, which pervades the mindstream of all sentient beings, therefore it will not deviate from it. The union of being is: samsara and nirvana are all the great bliss of non-duality, therefore it will not deviate from it. "Great" is great because it possesses the cause of manifestation. It is the most excellent among the three. Furthermore, Mahamudra relies solely on conceptual thought, therefore it is also great. Mahamudra does not rely on any basis, therefore it is also great. By what is it accomplished? It is accomplished by the unfabricated original wisdom.

It is accomplished. There are two aspects to it: the Soma of investigation and the Soma of meditation. The Soma of investigation involves examining that all phenomena arise from other causes, examining that which arises from other causes is itself unborn, and examining that which is unborn is itself nothing at all. Regarding this, it is said: All consciousness arises from causes, therefore, one should know well the unborn, the essence of all Buddhas without distinction. Thus it is said. The Soma of meditation has three aspects: First, without effort or accomplishment, relax the body and mind, like cotton dissolving into thread; second, without doubt, leave the mind uncorrected; and finally, with definite wisdom, dissolve all arising sensations into the unborn. Regarding this, it is said: Abide in the means like cotton, not accomplished by all efforts, abandon the dualistic mind, meditate on the supreme first being. Know that the root of the various miraculous transformations of experience is there. Thus it is said. If one accomplishes something, then that which is free from negation and affirmation is accomplishment. Regarding this, because the view does not negate, all tenets are it; because the meditation does not negate, all investigations are it. Because the conduct does not negate, all fabrications are it. The view does not establish, it is spontaneously accomplished; the meditation does not establish, it is naturally complete. Regarding this, it is said: Non-duality, free from negation and affirmation, is vast, the result is the Great Seal. Thus it is said. If one must do something, then in terms of experience, one does it with 'nothing at all,' and there are three aspects to that: the view is 'nothing at all,' free from dualistic grasping; the meditation is 'nothing at all,' free from three stages; the conduct is 'nothing at all,' free from two examinations. Regarding this, it is said: The wisdom of 'nothing at all,' not making it in the mind, is the Great Seal. Thus it is said. What is the name? The meaning is E-Vam, and there are three aspects to it: Examining the three hopes, possessing the five dharmas, perfected by the four bodies. Among these, examining the three hopes are: the hope of antidote, the hope of suchness, and the hope of result. Regarding this, it is said: The antidote is also not a side, separated from that nature, another does not arise. Thus it is said. Possessing the five dharmas are: the five, namely, unborn by nature, without self-nature, all-pervasive, unchanging, and all-encompassing in time. Unborn by nature
