As stated in the Madhyamaka: Those minds without objects, Abide in the nature of space, Only the meditation on space, Is what those who wish to meditate on emptiness desire. Thus it is. Therefore, the Great Secret speaks of meanings that even the Lesser Vehicle practitioners cannot understand. Because obscured by the darkness of ignorance, The Hearers and others do not know. This means that "ignorance" refers to non-afflictive ignorance. Because Hearers and Solitary Realizers do not possess omniscience. Ignorance is also darkness, therefore it is called "the darkness of ignorance." Because it makes unclear the wisdom that does not correctly discriminate the true meaning. Obscured by it, means "obscured by the darkness of ignorance," because Hearers have not abandoned the obscuration to knowledge. Thus, it is also stated in the Prajnaparamita: Subhuti, do you see the Tathagata's uncontaminated aggregates? World-Honored One, I do not see them. Therefore, it is said: The Hearers and others do not know. "Hearer" refers to the Buddha of the Hearers, who, having listened to the Teacher's teachings, has perfected the four parts of ascertainment and manifested the path of seeing. They do not know, because they have not abandoned the grasped-at and the grasper. "Field of activity" refers to the six external sense bases, such as form. These, appearing as non-existent due to the influence of previous life's karma, are called "habitual traces of the field of activity." Understanding that this is merely conceptual, is: The knower of the habitual traces of the field of activity, Manifests as a Solitary Realizer. "Solitary Realizer" refers to one who, before this life, has perfected the four parts of ascertainment and entered the path of seeing, but having passed away in this life, in the next life does not need to listen to the Teacher's teachings, and by himself ascertains the four parts of ascertainment and manifests the path of seeing. "Manifests" means to bring forth. Even all of these, meaning all Solitary Realizers, do not know, because they have not abandoned the grasping at the grasper. Thus, it is also stated in the Abhisamayalankara: To abandon the thought of the object of grasping, And because the grasper is not abandoned, Like the path of a rhinoceros horn as a support, Truly.

It is known by gathering. Thus it is said. The word "also" means that what the Shravakas do not understand, the Pratyekabuddhas also do not understand. Ignorant ordinary people. It means that the sound of not knowing refers to the above, and ordinary people also do not know, that is the meaning. Among them, "not knowing" refers to the ignorance with defilements, that is, ordinary people have defilements and obscurations of knowledge. Not knowing is also an ordinary person, so it is said "ignorant ordinary person", which means different from the noble ones, because they have not obtained the path of seeing the Dharma of the noble ones, and have not been liberated from non-virtue. Showing the meaning of not knowing at all times. Future, past, and present, refers to these three times, which is easy to understand. Animals refers to those who have left the realm of gods and humans, that is, the three lower realms. Their non-virtuous karma is the habit of animals. Arising from that means arising from that. Livestock and hungry ghosts, the kinds of beings. That is what it means. Among them, livestock refers to those who belong to the category of livestock other than gods and humans, because they are livestock and walk, so they are called livestock, that is, humans and non-humans, etc. However, livestock, etc., actually know. Hungry ghosts refers to those who have passed away without returning from here. Or those who suffer from hunger and thirst. Falling into these two realms are: livestock and hungry ghosts, the kinds of beings. All of them do not know. It means that the three lower realms are tormented by various sufferings. What is said to be unknown? It is the great secret of the Buddha's realm. The text has ended. Thus, the vast qualities of Dharma-nature have been shown, and now it is showing the meaning. What appears temporarily connected with the Dharma realm is: From where does it arise? To this question, the answer is: Essence, extremely essence, supreme. And so on. Among them, essence refers to the outer mandala, because it does not shake, and it can ripen the fruits of wishes. Thus, it is also said in Manifestation of the World: Because the essence is gathered, it is said to be a mandala.
