Thus, contemplate its meaning. Thus, thus, it is free from distinctions. Likewise, that which is other than self-awareness by its own nature alone is indeed conceptualization, so it is said. It is not clinging to those as one, because clinging to self-awareness and form, etc., also arises simultaneously, therefore it is delusion. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Those with and without conceptualization, when consciousnesses arise simultaneously, because ignorance also arises quickly, they cling to those as one." So it is said. Likewise, again in the eighteenth chapter: "Without beginning or end, peaceful, existent and nonexistent, inexhaustible lord, emptiness and compassion, indivisible, is called bodhicitta." Thus, harm by reliance is the acceptance of all conventional truths. If, even if one abandons scripture for a subject and reason established by valid cognition, there is no loss whatsoever, because it does not harm the accomplishment of the desired meaning. For subjects, etc., that are not objects of direct perception or inference but are taught by scripture, one must necessarily accept scripture, because otherwise investigation is not allowed. Therefore, it is reasonable that it is harmed by that itself. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Therefore, for established meanings, even if the treatises are abandoned, there is no harm. Without accepting scripture, it is not possible to enter into the hidden." That is true, because you also accept the wisdom that is the non-duality of ultimate truth. If that does not exist, then because the direct perception that has that as its object does not exist, the inference that precedes it is not established at all, because there is harm to everything or not even a little, because there is no difference. For those who say that ultimate truth exists, the distinction is indeed reason. Furthermore, one should also see that there is no fault in the treatises spoken by those who are not omniscient. For scriptures, etc., valid cognition has already been refuted earlier. Otherwise, if the scripture spoken by the omniscient one also does not harm the subject established by valid cognition, then at that time, what opportunity is there for anything to gain the opportunity to be harmed by reliance on the mind established by self-aware direct perception? If there is, it is what the Bhagavan taught as dependent on the body, because body and mind follow each other, so it is said. Like this

If stating faults, in order to benefit with his wisdom, it is said that mind relies on the body. This statement explains the Pramāṇavārttika, so it is abandoned. Furthermore, the characteristic of self-cognizance, the wisdom of the omniscient one itself is valid cognition, because it is not deceptive. It is the ultimate truth, and even its words are conventionally valid cognition, because others are not. This is extensively taught by the Ornament, so it should be realized as such. What is said is: All that is related to meaning, is not seen by direct perception. What is related in a general way, is established by inference. Because there is no other valid cognition, from what is doubt cut off? Therefore, convention itself is valid cognition. So it is. If that is the case, if convention is valid cognition, then how is the characteristic of valid cognition established in the treatises? Even if it is established in the treatises, it is not that it becomes so merely by words. However, it is from the non-deceptive nature in convention. If that is the case, then the treatises themselves are meaningless. What is said is: The treatises are what dispel delusion. If the nature of valid cognition is realized from convention, then why does it become the characteristic of contradictory treatises? Therefore, convention is also of those whose intelligence is not in agreement. Thus also: Not from all conventions, is it realized as valid cognition. Therefore, the characteristic of valid cognition, is endowed with contradictions. Direct perception and so on as valid cognition, do not realize the other world. Speech other than scripture, therefore it is not from convention. Therefore, because convention is doubt, the treatises are what dispel delusion. For those who do not remember the past and the future, this treatise dispels. Therefore, the treatises spoken by the omniscient one itself dispel delusion, others do not, and in this way, the words of the omniscient one itself are valid cognition in the ultimate truth. The wisdom of the omniscient one itself is valid cognition, and others are not, this is the ultimate truth. Others are not valid cognition, because it is impossible to pervade the knowable. Because it does not pervade, it does not grasp the connection of cause and effect and so on. Because the objects of cause and effect pervade past and future and present time and place, the object that is used together is definitely the omniscient one.

It is not the object of newly arisen knowledge, because it is only the object of things that are happening now and of faults that are apprehended by direct perception, and also because subsequent inference does not apply. How is it known that the author of the treatise is omniscient? This will be explained later. Then, the words of the omniscient one and the words that follow it are also valid and harmful in every way, thus it abides. If it is necessarily possible in any way by seeing the other shore, then it is so, otherwise it is not. Moreover, for anything, these refutations and answers are explained as ornaments. If this exists, it will arise, and it will arise from what has already arisen, this itself is what the Blessed One has spoken of as the characteristic of a cause. Otherwise, constant engagement is not examined. The Blessed One himself is the valid measure of ultimate reality, the entity of cause and effect, because following and reversing the pervasive are taken accordingly, thus it is shown. It is impossible that the Blessed One did not speak of the qualities that possess benefit. There is no fault, because we have said that it is always beneficial, it is the fifth, it is said from what has arisen. If this exists, this will arise, thus the constant engagement is spoken of. If it exists, it is the seventh of the reason. Otherwise, even if it does not exist, if it exists, this will not become the entity of its reason. The fifth is the source, the source also arises from the agent of birth, because it is said so. Arising is also the nature of the cause. Moreover, for the object of valid cognition, since there is no harm that contradicts the words spoken by the omniscient one, it will become unrelated. Therefore, it should be understood that in all places there is harm to the teachings of the omniscient one. In any case, for those who accept everything as conventional, due to the harm of valid cognition and scripture, since this does not exist, for Madhyamaka, it is an outsider. Similarly, I have explained in detail how to establish ultimate reality, so it should be understood there. As Master Vasubandhu said: Therefore, these bubbles of sight will appear in this teaching. One of these is the apprehension of a person, and all the others.
