In response to "Dapa chi," it is said: Whatever arises from causes and conditions should be understood as objects and faculties. Understanding this is the universal teaching. "Tra" (ཏྲ་) means to protect. And so on, it is said. Generally, each of the six aggregates of consciousness arises from four types of conditions. What are they? The causal condition is the alaya consciousness, the dominant condition is the faculty, the objective condition is the object, and the immediately preceding condition is the cessation of the previous six. Here, "Whatever arises from causes and conditions" refers to the internal and external sources, that is, the six entering consciousnesses. The cause of each of these is their respective faculties, and the condition is their respective objects. What arises from the assembly of these causes and conditions is the various consciousnesses. "Should be understood as objects and faculties" means that what appears as the six objects are the six goddesses, such as the Vajra Dakini of Form. The six faculties should be understood as the six male deities, such as the Heroes. Consciousness is the nature of their respective wisdoms. "Understanding this is the universal teaching" means that such contemplation is not just once or twice, but it is taught to contemplate in all times and circumstances. In short, the meeting of object and faculty is the nature of skillful means and wisdom, and the arising of consciousness from this is the nature of body and wisdom. The arising of attachment and aversion from any object or mind is the Vajra of Body, Speech, and Mind, or transforming into goddesses such as the Vajra Dakini of Form, offering and dissolving into one's own lineage deity. "Tra" (ཏྲ་) means to protect. Knowing objects and faculties in this way, no matter how the three doors are used, one will not be bound to samsara by the fault of faults, nor fall into the lower realms, but will be liberated, which is the protection of oneself. For beings who have not realized this, generating impartial compassion and working for their benefit is the meaning of protecting others. Some say that the cause mentioned above—the faculty—is the Hero, which is the Body; the condition—the Mother—is the Mind-Mother, which is the Speech; and the consciousness arising from this is Wisdom, which is the Mind. Knowing this, the protection from the two extremes (samsara and nirvana) is called "Tra" (ཏྲ་), meaning to protect.

It is said, "It means that." Because of that very meaning, whatever is said in all the vows, one is definitely liberated from worldly conduct. The one who protects all vajras is said to be practicing mantra. It is said that, when one abides in the state of such realization, there is no need to protect and restrain the three doors with those vows of the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and even later vows, Samaya Sutras, and various Tantras. Even if one engages in actions that seem contrary to these, it benefits other beings and does not cause one to fall. Therefore, one is definitely liberated from worldly conduct. It means that even if one engages in worldly conduct, one will be liberated from the bonds of the world, which means attaining enlightenment. The one who protects all vajras means that the vajra is the nature of wisdom, the mind of the Tathagata. Just as it protects all beings from samsara and falling, or from both extremes, the yogi, with a mind of compassion inseparable from it, protects all beings, thinking of their benefit and happiness. This is what is taught as mantra practice. It means that what is taught in this way is also taught as the mantra practice of mantra-practicing yogis. Now, the thirty-second question: How should recitation be practiced? As an answer: One's own essence, contemplate in the heart with the mind. Recitation, emitting and withdrawing, is specifically spoken of as purification. It is said, and so on. Among them, one's own essence means that one's own mind, with the essence of the wisdom of awareness, fully possesses the mandala of the deity, or, if one wants to visualize the deity in whom one has faith, then visualize the essence of one's own mandala. Whichever one wants to practice, the method of practice is to do it as described below. That is the meaning. So, what is that like? Contemplate in the heart with the mind. It means that with the mind, that is, with the consciousness that has the characteristic of clearly manifesting all phenomena and being able to observe and discern each object, one abides in the unpredicted, impermanent, and constant nature, and from it, one holds all the seeds of virtue and vice, and with the colors of karma.
