What is that? It is where the night and the day and the interval, and the appearances of the day all subside. Among these, the night is the wisdom of appearance, the day is the wisdom of the expansion of appearance, and the interval is the wisdom of near attainment of appearance, that is, the time of dusk. The morning interval is the wisdom of clear light, and through this sequence, one should understand the sequence of outer manifest enlightenment. By seeing this, inner bliss becomes the attainment of inner manifest enlightenment. Buddhahood is the ground of the great Vajradhara, called Samantabhadra, that very moment should be attained by the moment of clear light. So, what is the difference between outer and inner manifest enlightenment? It is said: One is the sequence of outer mudras, and the second is attained through the sequence of wisdom mudras. The sequence of the great mudra is the characteristic of the order of the five signs. Those are: First, like a mirage; second, like smoke; third, like a firefly; fourth, burning like a lamp; fifth, like a cloudless sky. Thus it is said. From these beginnings and ends of various distinctions, one should understand that the great elements are by nature gradually drawn closer together, such as earth dissolving into water. First, earth goes into water, water also goes into fire, fire also follows the wind, wind enters into consciousness, consciousness enters into that very nature of holding. Thus it is said, it is the ultimate meaning. In order to show that difference, the final arising and the initial arising, the non-middle arising in the middle, the boundless arising at the end, all of these are said by the noble ones to be emptiness. Thus it is said, the noble ones are those with great minds, they say that all emptiness is clear light, indicating the fourth suchness. Thus it indicates, what is that? It is that which, whether initial, intermediate, or final, is not stained by desire, freedom from desire, or the middle of desire, yet because it is pervasive, the nature of initial, intermediate, and final is also that. That is ultimate. Again, that difference

In order to explain, where there is no going or coming, and no light, no cessation or increase, neither existence nor non-existence. It is wonderful in form and yet not wonderful, neither abiding nor quickly going. Thus it is said, and the noble ones have thus declared this fourth suchness, and the sound of 'said' refers to this. What is it like? Where there is no going or coming, there is no entering or rising, and the word 'also' indicates that there is no abiding either. This is different from non-Vajra recitation. Cessation is the absence of inherent existence, and increase is the arising of the mind's luminosity. These are also absent. This is different from the stages of focusing on the mind. Similarly, non-existence is the absence of conceptualization of conventional appearances, and existence is like an illusion. These also do not become objects of focus. This is different from the stages of blessing oneself. It is wonderful in form because the collection of habitual tendencies dissolves, and it is not wonderful because it is the nature of peace. Abiding and quickly going are birth and death, and because these do not exist, it is said, 'Neither abiding nor quickly going,' which is the ultimate of what is hidden. Furthermore, whatever is free from the terms of existence and non-existence, is not the form of merit, nor the form of sin, nor the nature of merit and sin, is the supreme. The Buddhas declare that it is empty of all things. Thus it is said, 'The Buddhas declare that it is empty of all things,' in order to refute self-fabrication. What is it like? Because there are no inherent natures, it is free from the term of existence; because it is the nature of luminosity, it is free from the term of non-existence. Similarly, it is not the form of merit and sin because there are no afflictions or elaborations in luminosity. The three aggregates are not the nature of merit and sin because they are contradictory. Therefore, the supreme is the ultimate reality, that is, the ultimate. In order to explain the remainder, the yogi attains such suchness.
