Claiming not to have attained wisdom is a characteristic of having inferior disciples. Similarly, without reverence and offerings, one desires to quickly attain accomplishment. Speaking improper words, one wavers with anger. Upon seeing the lama in a large gathering, one turns one's back. Then, one goes to a secluded place and prostrates. These words are easy to understand. Likewise, such a student who is of evil nature and inferior, even if he is one's own son, should be completely abandoned as if he were someone else. Even if he is born from the royal lineage or the noble lineage, he should never be kept close. This means that such a student of evil nature, even if he is one's own son, should be abandoned. If someone of evil nature arises from the three castes of Brahmins, etc., he should be abandoned as before. This is like a person who is like sandalwood, not a vessel for the Completion Stage. As it is said: "One who has little learning and is arrogant, speaks much without basis, and cannot be guided, is called a person of sandalwood." Now, in order to explain a person who is like a precious jewel, possessing excellent qualities, diligent in wisdom, or respecting the lama as equal to the Buddha, understanding the teachings of the Buddhas, and being very devoted to the teachings, such a person is a vessel, so one should bestow kindness upon him. As it is said, such a person is a vessel for this stage. What is it like? Excellent qualities refer to love, etc., and having faith, etc. Being diligent in wisdom means striving in the five sciences, thus possessing wisdom, and striving to practice virtuous Dharma, thus possessing diligence. Similarly, the lama is the Vajra Master, and one should view him as equal to the Buddha. Similarly, the teachings of the Buddhas are the three pitakas, being skilled in them, and one who has faith in the teachings of the Bhagavan, one should bestow kindness upon him, which is to explain the meaning of the second stage. Such a person is like a precious jewel. As it is said: "One who is pure in discipline and skilled, possessing wisdom and a harmonious mind-stream, and who, having heard, teaches well, is called a person of precious jewel." Now, using only one sutra, to explain Utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) and

In order to explain the White Lotus, although one has heard many tantras and is well-versed in the scriptures, if one has not received the transmission due to neglecting the service of the guru, that person is unable to even benefit oneself, yet argues about treatises. That person's treatises are merely a cause for discouragement. It is said that tantras and scriptures are heard many times from many teachers, such as the Vaibhashikas, and although one's mind is trained, if one has not received the oral instructions from the gurus, thinking, "I am wise myself," then one is unable to even benefit oneself. What need is there to mention benefiting others? Therefore, that person's treatises are merely a cause for discouragement, because of arguing about treatises. Therefore, that person will transcend the benefit of oneself and others, which is the meaning of the words. As it is said: "That person, having heard all the meanings, is very skilled in grasping, but forgets in an instant, is a person called Utpala." "Even having heard many things to be grasped, one has no ability to teach, like cotton seeds in a vase, is a person called Padma." It is said that in order to explain the precious person who has become a vessel for the disciples' teachings, one has heard many tantras and knows the six abodes of knowledge, and is endowed with mindfulness, intelligence, steadfastness, and diligence. One is respectful of the guru's feet and has received the transmission, and that person is suitable to teach the essence of the king of tantras. It is said that this is a person like a precious jewel, and that person is able to teach the essence of the king of tantras to others. Previously, it was taught that one becomes a vessel for oral instructions oneself, therefore, these verses explain that it is reasonable to do things for the sake of others. What is that like? Having heard many tantras, one is able to explain the tantras by distinguishing the six extremes, and having wisdom is realizing suchness, and similarly, one is endowed with the five transcendent faculties of mindfulness and so on, and one has received the oral instructions by honoring the guru's feet. In order to explain the complete dedication of merit, by the kindness of the noble Vajrapani, one has heard many tantras. By clearly distinguishing the path to enlightenment with elaborate words, may whatever merit the Shakya's spiritual friend has accumulated become a vessel for the ripening of clear and wise enlightenment.
