One should contemplate as if facing the expanse of the sky. Therefore, the most excellent is distinct from those who merely speak of consciousness with aspects, because the nature of the aspects is not established. Even if this is not the ultimate conclusion on the side of the noble ones, nevertheless, because it is in relation to the fourth chapter, it is presented as the view of the former, and there is no fault. This teaching is also of expedient meaning, and not of definitive meaning. The venerable one also said, 'Whatever is seen by beings, the net of contemplation concerning the individual, all of those are nets arising from the mind, this is what the Victorious One spoke.' Now, in order to explain the fruit of contemplation, (the text says) 'Having obtained the state of clear light, one will be born as the body of great joy. At that time, one will obtain the body of great joy Vajra, and become the master of all.' This means that having realized the clear light, the body of great joy will be born as the enjoyment body and the emanation body. Similarly, the master of all refers to obtaining the eight qualities such as the mastery of the body, and will transform into the irreversible wisdom body, while great joy benefits beings with the illusory body. In order to explain how Shakyamuni acted after what the Tathagatas said, (the text says) 'Thus hearing that sound, then abandoning the immovable samadhi, from here until midnight, the son of the Victorious Ones contemplates that, the body is neither straight nor not straight, it is neither exhaling nor inhaling, it is neither speaking nor not speaking, the beautiful eyes are neither closed nor open, all is empty, greatly wondrous, that is the great wisdom of manifestation, through the kindness of the lama, then one will clearly see that.' This means that with three and a half verses, it explains that in youth, all meanings are accomplished, thereby realizing Suchness. The Blessed One, having heard the sound of the Tathagatas hindering the samadhi of great emptiness, completely abandoned it, and through the Suchness of all emptiness, one is able to see, this is the connection of the words. If asked, through what cause can one see, (the answer) through the kindness of the lama.

Here, all Buddhas are the Lama, due to their kindness. When one realizes that very reality, then there is no need for straightening the body, etc., which are branches of Samadhi. It is taught to abandon them completely. Why? Because that very reality is the Dharmadhatu, which pervades everything. How can those who only practice one aspect meditate on straightening the body, etc.? What is that very reality like? Firstly, it is without obscuration. Secondly, it is clear because it abides in the minds of sentient beings. Wisdom is without wisdom, and greatness is because of its great self. Everything is empty because even if there is an appearance of that nature, it is not perceived. Therefore, it is greatly wondrous. In other texts, there is the word 'luminosity.' If there is, its explanation is that whatever appears with a nature that transcends night and day and boundaries is luminosity. Such a reality will be seen. To explain the benefit of seeing it, it is said, 'The past and the future, and the three existences that arise in the present, are all seen in that instant. In luminosity, one holds purity.' This has been said, and its meaning has already been explained. That is as it is in the words. To explain rising, it is said, 'With a vajra-like Samadhi, at the time when dawn arises, adorned with the qualities of illusion, such as water moons and mirages, having dwelt at the root of the Bodhi tree, he subdued the Maras.' This is said to mean that the Shakyamuni who became the wisdom body closely represented by the examples of illusion such as water moons, etc., in the order of obtaining near appearance, etc., or in the order of sudden enlightenment, subdues the Maras, which is to subdue the four Maras. At midnight, having dwelt at the root of the Bodhi tree, he subdues them. At what time? Dawn is the herdsman of the sun god, and it is at the time when he arises. What Samadhi did he do at that time? 'With a vajra-like Samadhi.' This is the luminosity obtained in the order of focusing on the mind, which is the first meaning. Water is appearance.
