Earth. The stages of manifest enlightenment are twofold means for yogis: the stages of mudra and the stages of samadhi. Among these, the stages of samadhi are twofold: complete holding and subsequent destruction. Complete holding means that from head to toe, and even before they understand, the wheel of light makes the self-nature disappear. After that, subsequent destruction means that in that order, first the three realms disappear, and then the self disappears. This is called complete holding and subsequent destruction of samadhi. With these samadhis, one enters the basis of suchness, that is, the nature of all emptiness, and attains manifest enlightenment. The yogi should then enter into that nature, and afterwards, knowing that this is the side of ultimate truth and not conventional truth, like a dream, for the sake of benefiting beings, from that, that is, from the clear light itself, equally and simultaneously, in an instant, with a mind free from the duality of the two samadhis, arises all at once. The body that arises is the union, and it should be said to be the divine body arising from the cause of the two samadhis. This is the concluding remark, that is, the ultimate meaning. From the perspective of another order: Conventional and ultimate, knowing that there is no difference, wherever they are completely mixed, that is said to be union. Thus it is said that conventional means the conceptual thoughts such as vases that appear to the consciousness with conceptualization. Ultimate truth is that which, relying on a special path, reverses the conceptual thoughts of grasping and being grasped. Kambhala's face also said: Without other conceptualization, conceptualization is called conventional, that conceptualization itself is the conventional that reverses. Thus it is said. Although they are established as distinct by the difference between samsara and nirvana, they abide without difference in ultimate truth. Ultimate truth is not perceived separately from conventional truth, because ultimate truth is the nature of suchness.

Moreover, it is not different from the ultimate truth, because it is impossible to find a phenomenon apart from the nature of reality. In the commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment, it is also said: Just as sweetness is the nature of sugar cane, and heat is the nature of fire, similarly, the emptiness of all phenomena is considered to be their nature. Just like conditioned things and impermanence, if they do not exist, they will certainly not arise. As it is said, in the Perfection of Wisdom, it is also said: Form is empty by its very nature, form is emptiness itself, there is no form other than emptiness, and there is no emptiness other than form, and so on. Therefore, if one understands that conventional truth and ultimate truth are without distinction, and completely merges into any samadhi, becoming one and without difference, this is said to be union, which is the general meaning. Alternatively, conventional truth and ultimate truth are the generation stage and the completion stage, and if one understands that they are without distinction, and the yogi completely merges into any samadhi, this is said to be their union. Alternatively, conventional truth is the four stages of vajra recitation and so on, as it is said in this very text: As long as one is endowed with meditation, one is always the first to act. Ultimate truth is the five stages, and if one understands that they are without distinction, without difference, completely merges them, and makes them of one taste, this is said to be union, which is the ultimate meaning. From the perspective of the completion stage: Focusing on suchness, and where there is no arising, there it will become union, the yogi abides in an inexhaustible state. It is said that suchness is the special feature of samadhi that is free from all the faults of conceptualization arising from affliction and purification, and another name is luminosity. Even when one has settled into it, one should focus on suchness, without thinking, "This is it," or, "I have attained suchness," without having separate conceptual fixations. Similarly, in order to benefit sentient beings, arising from the stage of self-blessing, that is, arising with joy, without generating conceptual thoughts focused on it.
