Tone, clamor, sound, and speech, Roaring, stacking, and clarity, Cutting off, these are the ten characteristics of sound. Throat, lips, gums, teeth, and so on, Are distinguished by these differences, Becoming the basis for letters and clear words. This is said to be a letter. In the world of Brahma and so on, Through the tonal distinctions of the six births and so on, Brahma sings all speech into song, The tones exist in seven forms. Sound, pitch, symbol, and words, and so on, As the nature of the names of elements, Whatever treatise on sound exists here, That sound exists in everything. At the end of sound is pleasantness, Whatever is obtained, And whatever brings happiness, Is manifestly called tone. Birds, musical instruments, and people, Arise from gathering, Whatever is without distinction and clear, All of that is proclaimed as clamor. The lute, bell, and so on are struck, The sound that arises from that, Whatever brings happiness to the mind, Is manifestly called sound and speech. Just as fire blazes, The collection of wind and water, Sound arises from that, That is properly called roaring. The sound of wind, fire, and rain are similar, The sound that dwells within, The sound heard after covering the ears, That is called stacking and clarity. For example, being moved by the wind, The sound that arises from the lute, The place where such a sound arises, When heard by the wise, Correctly arises from the direction of the navel, When focused on that, Like a bee inside a vase. That is deep and melodious, Entering very subtly, The sound is clearly heard, And is to be known by the mind itself. That is called cutting off, Like treating sesame seeds with sesame oil, etc., It pervades all of these, Without doubt and unspeakable. Completely abandoning tones and letters, That is eternally inside and outside, That is called the sacred Brahma. That is what no one can speak, Nor is it capable of being destroyed. Thus it arises by itself, It dwells in the body that pervades everything. It exists in places and samsara, It exists in food and ignorance. As long as it is not understood, It can only be known as livestock. It exists in everything, It is called the sacred Brahma, The suchness of mantra.

Thereafter, one will be liberated from the cage of samsara. The sequence of what has been said, such as this, has clarified the very nature of mantra, and from the very nature of mantra arises the perfection of mantra. How is that? Here, the yogi contemplates the letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) burning at the center of the eight-petaled lotus of the Dharmadhatu wheel located in the navel chakra. Also, arranging three letters in the head and so on, and reciting them in the order of entering and so on. Collecting them by distinguishing between parts and parts, and placing them therein. And dissolving it into the Dharmadhatu wheel, and recognizing it as the self-nature of luminosity. Abiding, this is called the perfection of mantra, because it is very ultimate, therefore this is called the recitation of neither male nor female. A yogi with such a form is well-trained in Vajra recitation, this is its meaning. It is not by intention. Now is the order of the four stages. From Vajra recitation, the yogi will obtain focus on the mind. From realizing focus on the mind, one will obtain the wisdom body. Abiding in the illusory-like samadhi, one will obtain non-dual wisdom. Abiding in the union samadhi, one will no longer learn in any field. The meaning of what has been said, such as this, is: through the sequence of Vajra recitation, after purification and cleansing, the yogi will obtain focus on the self-nature of mind, intellect, and consciousness, that is, obtain purity. The nature of the alaya consciousness, afflicted consciousness, and entering consciousness, along with the hundred and sixty aggregates of consciousness, day and night, like the turning of a water bucket, causes beings to wander in samsara. These three consciousnesses, which are rootless, placeless, colorless, signless, and formless, holding the sharp sword of sudden afflictive habitual patterns, rob and kill the virtuous root wealth of travelers going to the wilderness of samsara, and throw them into other birth places. As it is said, in the Sutra of the River of Ashes it says: The virtue of those who dwell in the wilderness
