There are three types of enlightenment. Among them, the so-called enlightenment of Dharma origin refers to obtaining great plays of attachment and so on through the path of enjoying the five desirable qualities. Similarly, the so-called enlightenment of the Dharma realm refers to maintaining the body and practicing by whatever means food and drink are obtained. The so-called unsurpassed enlightenment is to be practiced through the yoga of enlightenment that fully understands the distinctions of attachment and so on through the sequence of mantras combined with the wisdom mudra. These themselves are the three conducts, namely, conduct with elaboration, conduct without elaboration is the samaya mudra, and the mudra prophesied by the Bhagavan, to be performed together with inviting goddesses and so on. The conduct of extreme non-elaboration is to be performed together with the wisdom mudra. Food is the enjoyment of the five desires, as well as food obtained wherever it is found and the food of meditation. The yogi should be familiar with these three conducts, such as those with elaboration, and should practice the sequence of enlightenment, which is the word as it is. The meaning of this summary is as follows: The yogi who possesses conduct with elaboration should place food and drink and so on in the lower level of a three-story meditation room, place various percussion instruments in the middle level, and then, on the top floor, sit on a throne, abiding as the central main deity, with the samaya mudras of the nature of goddesses such as Buddha Eye, and the goddesses of the nature of directions and so on, having forms and so on, surrounded by five goddesses with ornaments, taking the visualization of all of these as the body of deities as a prerequisite, mixing with the five families, and then singing various beautiful Vajra songs, delighting them with these, and the yogi who is satisfied by the enjoyment of various desires should enter into samadhi with a collection of various activities, until the experience of the suchness of great bliss.

One should abide in the state of experience as long as it lasts. This is called the practice with elaboration and the manifest enlightenment of the arising of phenomena. A yogi who possesses the practice without elaboration, if the Tathagatas seen in dream signs prophesy, 'Hold a certain great mudra and practice,' having believed in that, he should train well and take a mudra that is in accordance with his lineage. In order to be in accordance with the desire gods, he should make artificial hair and so forth made of wood and so on, be content with whatever food he finds, and go from one place to another with the mind of self and no-self. In this way, until manifest enlightenment clearly appears, he should become accustomed to the path of meditating together with it. This is called the practice without elaboration and the manifest enlightenment of the sphere of reality. A yogi who possesses the practice of extreme non-elaboration abandons the objects of external examination and takes the wisdom mudra. Whether with or without asceticism, he sits in any state and without any grasping, even if worldly people laugh at him as a madman, he is endowed with the food of tree roots and fruits and the food of meditation, and as long as the attainment of manifest enlightenment is accomplished, he should engage in meditation and so forth by being in equipoise with it. This is called the practice of extreme non-elaboration and the unsurpassed manifest enlightenment, which is just as it sounds. Now, for those who think that it is meaningless to practice relying on the thusness that is naturally established, the following is explained in verses from the previous perspective: 'The nature that is primordially established is naturally established. If thusness does not arise from conceptual thought, then what is the use of practice?' Thus it is said. Therefore, if someone says that the order of consciousness is completely pure, or that thusness can be attained through the order of practice, that is not reasonable. For thusness is the self-nature of suchness, and suchness is the nature and existence of all things, therefore it is the nature of phenomena and permanence.
