And likewise, the warrior, shamelessness and pure desire, deceit and deception, etc., there are forty natures in total. It is said to be the instant of utter emptiness. It is said that in the previous sutra, the word "self-awareness" should be added in the manner of a turtle's gait. Therefore, these forty natures, which arise in each instant, must be thoroughly understood with the mark of self-awareness. These, and the previously mentioned sequence, the perversion of the afflicted consciousness, should be abandoned by utter emptiness. The afflicted mind consciousness is what is called self-view, self-ignorance, self-conceit, and self-attachment. The four afflictions, as well as contact, attention, feeling, perception, and thought, the five omnipresent ones, are they complete and not connected to others? Therefore, how can it be reasonable to be in accordance with the forty natures? This is true, but the forty natures are included within the four afflictions. From attachment to satisfaction, it is self-view. From embracing to joy, it is self-ignorance. From hesitation to untruth, it is self-conceit. From certainty to deception, it is self-attachment, like the fifty-one composite factors. Although these are mental factors, they are also included in the root afflictions, just as the literal meaning. Now are the names that match the meaning. What is called "Day Born" is the rough manifestation. What is called the solar disk, and likewise the Vajra nature itself. Charu, adorned with two bindus, should be known. Like the rays of the sun, the wisdom of clear light arises. It is said. Among them, the extreme clarity of increasing light is called day because it appears like the sun. Because it is the nature of skillful means, it is called born. Because it has the appearance of a solar disk, it is rough. On top of the solar disk, on the vajra seat, adorned with the two bindus of the first vowel letter.

When the seeds of those placements are gathered, and a collection of light like the sun arises, then the wisdom of clear light arises, its nature transforming into the consciousness of a defiled mind, this is its meaning. It is not a hidden meaning. Now, the pure aspect of the Alaya-consciousness: "Light's approximation and, likewise, the nature of approximation, the nature of perfect accomplishment, and the nature of ignorance, the words of great emptiness, these names the Victorious One spoke." Thus it is declared, "Light's approximation" refers to the two lights related to the sun and moon that are approximated; after being separated from light in those, it is like the light of a very clear boundary that is approximated. "Likewise, the nature of approximation" means that only such a nature is approximated, not others such as the sun and moon, thus cutting off connection with others, like saying "accomplishing affairs swiftly." The nature of the transformation of Alaya-consciousness is the perfect accomplishment of the nature of an Arhat, that which is transformed is the nature of an Arhat, as it is said. The all-encompassing nature of the seeds of arising of all consciousnesses is called ignorance. Or, because it is the nature of non-declaration, therefore, regarding name and form, and contact and attention, feeling, perception, and thought, not knowing them as consciousness is ignorance, that is, Alaya-consciousness, possessing the nature of neutral feeling, this is its meaning. What should be abandoned by the antidote of great emptiness is the wisdom of the approximation of great emptiness. These names of it, the Victorious One has spoken and shown, thus preventing one's own desires, as is the word. Its nature is: "The intermediate moment of attachment and, the forgetful and the confused nature, unspeakable and weariness, laziness, likewise, drowsiness, these seven moments of ignorance, the subtle yogi should know." Thus it is declared, Alaya-consciousness is always possessed of contact, attention, feeling, perception, and thought, but.

However, as before, the seven that are gathered in those alone should be explained separately. These are called subtle yogis, and are to be understood by yogis who possess subtle and extremely sharp wisdom, because it is only those with sharp intelligence of the Alaya-vijñana who can understand. Now is the name that accords with the meaning: "Not possessing seed bindu, Not arising from the gate of wind, What is it that obtains appearance, It is the nature of complete accomplishment." Thus it is said, not possessing the seed letters A and so on in the bindu, that is, not possessing the subsequent vowels, dots, and accents. Also, wind does not arise from the gates of the nostrils, that is, there is no connection of going and coming. Merely the appearance of the boundary appears, therefore, the wisdom that nearly obtains appearance is complete, having become the Alaya-vijñana. Completely, that is, the nature of complete accomplishment from all aspects, as it is said, is not the intention. Now is the conclusion: "One hundred subtle natures and, Sixty complete these are, Because of the cause of possessing the vehicle of wind, They arise in day and night." Thus it is said, the one hundred and sixty natures of the essence of skillful means, wisdom, and ignorance, these one hundred and sixty arise in day and night. Therefore, they are subtle, because they are to be cognized by oneself. Possessing the vehicle of wind, that is, arising from the cause of consciousness and action, is birth and cessation. It is not caused or uncaused by Ishvara and so on, because it has already been refuted. Because it is without cause, everything always arises or sometimes does not arise, because without cause it does not depend on others, it always exists or becomes non-existent. Things sometimes arise because they depend on conditions, as it is said. Thus, the three consciousnesses are mind, and the natures and so on are born from mind, therefore, the entire wheel of samsara is its nature, because it repeatedly arises and ceases. In order to prevent them, one should cultivate the path in stages, such as emptiness.
