What is said to be that is emptiness, and so on. Among them, emptiness is the lion, just as the lion can scare away deer, it can scare away all those who say there are real things, that is, all the statements of heretics, etc. Therefore, the heretics say that both internal and external things are entities. The two types of Shravakas say that external things are entities. The Mind-Only school says that it is only consciousness. Whatever views are similar to this, it is because those views have no self-nature. Thus, in general, views are said to be emptiness. It is also said that the Mind-Only school itself is the characteristic of emptiness, such as "any consciousness" and so on. Any person of the Mind-Only school, if consciousness is momentary, then his consciousness is not constant, because all moments are impermanent. Therefore, "the impermanent mind does not contradict emptiness," because impermanence and emptiness are not different and have the same meaning. Thus, even the view of the Mind-Only school must admit that consciousness is only emptiness. Also, "other consciousness, the impermanence of the mind," etc., all four views agree that the mind is momentary. These four views are the Sarvastivada, etc., because they all take refuge in the Three Jewels, and they all think that non-self and impermanence are similar. Therefore, "those," etc., that is, the holders of those four views are all sick people, so it should be admitted that the mind is emptiness. Also, the reason stated by the Madhyamaka school is: "Things have no self-nature, the mind is established at all times," that is, the arising of the mind that did not arise from the front, only exists in the three times, this is the final conclusion. Therefore, "because things have no self-nature, it is said to be without self-nature." If you analyze the aggregates, etc., and consciousness, because there is no self-nature, there is no essence. If you say in words, "having abandoned existing as the master," etc., that is, in accordance with the Buddha's view, dwelling in the view of non-self, and then establishing the Mind-Only school, this is unreasonable. Why? Because "of all dharmas," etc., the non-self of all dharmas, the dharma of emptiness, its own characteristics.

This shows that it is not something different from its own nature. For example, like brown sugar, etc., in any case, it will not lose its sweetness and heat. The meaning is from "everything" onwards, meaning that if any dharma such as the skandhas is analyzed, they have no self-nature. If all dharmas become emptiness, wouldn't the Madhyamaka view no longer be a standard of measurement? The answer is, starting from "self-nature" etc., meaning that the self-nature of dharmas is only emptiness, but it does not deny the cause and effect of dependent origination. If so, wouldn't it become permanent? Therefore, it is said "therefore." "Therefore" means that because it is emptiness, the dharma of cause and effect is only dependent origination. In order to illustrate that meaning, it is said "ignorance" etc. The twelve links of dependent origination are also only the connection of cause and effect, not the real existence of cause and effect. Among them, ignorance is the karma and afflictions of the previous life, which obscures the true meaning. The word "first" should be understood by the word "etc.," that is, including action etc. "Old age and death" refers to the limbs from consciousness to feeling, because they are suffering. This is called the "end point," which is merely the completion of the number of twelve limbs, not the ultimate end point, because in the next life, they are the nature of the five limbs such as consciousness. If it is not like that, what will happen? The answer is, starting from "like a magic" etc. Among them, the so-called twelve limbs are the limbs of ignorance and action of the previous life, and the two of birth and old age and death of the previous life, plus one's own eight, that is, three parts, in order to avoid confusion about the three times. Or, the limbs of cause and the limbs of effect, that is, ignorance, action, craving, grasping, and existence are the cause. The rest are the effects. This is considered to be the Madhyamaka school's view that the twelve limbs have no self-nature. Therefore, through the way of no self-nature, starting from "limbs" etc., the existence and grasping of the previous life produce ignorance. From ignorance arises action. From that arise the five from consciousness to feeling. Then craving and grasping arise. From that arises existence. On that, birth and old age and death of the previous life arise. This is also in the Abhidharmakosha.
