Adorned with virtues, possessing one's own diligence, always acting according to the guru's instructions. Even without being instructed, with one's own intelligence, whatever objects such as utensils are found, and whatever one is capable of, similarly offering food and so on. Even if one is despised in any way, one's mind does not become discouraged, and one endures. A student who possesses all good qualities, who contemplates with scripture and reasoning, who has a nature of not being judgmental, if there is no one like this, then it is not possible to act as a student, as the Buddhas have thoroughly proclaimed. Just as a child freely throws clods of dirt, whoever is under the control of others is not a vessel for the sacred Dharma. Thus it was said. Disparaging the guru, being deceitful, and without faith, boasting of mantras and being arrogant from seeing scriptures, to those without faith and with inferior empowerment, not even the order of speech should be spoken. Some have respect and faith in the guru, and always diligently attend to and serve with devotion. Whatever is heard and retained by the excellent guru, one does not disregard the guru's kindness and gifts. Even if someone falls from the peak of Mount Meru, even if one thinks they will not fall, they will fall. If one obtains a prophecy of benefit through the guru's kindness, even if one thinks they will not be liberated, they will be liberated. Thus he taught. Again he said, whoever is cunning, intelligent, and lazy, afflicted, seeing the guru's faults and not their virtues, slandering the guru, boasting of having received empowerment, a sentient being with inferior intelligence will not attain omniscience. Without service and offerings, quickly abandoning that one, with anger and agitation, holding wrongly, in gatherings if one sees the guru, one turns one's back, and then goes to a secluded place to prostrate, a student with an evil nature, even if they are one's own child, one completely abandons them as if they were someone else. Even if one is born from a noble lineage such as royalty, the teachings should not place them near. Possessing excellent qualities, intelligence, and diligence, or again, respecting the guru like the Buddha, realizing the Victorious One's Dharma, having great faith in the teachings, that one is beneficial, therefore one should bestow kindness. Even if one is learned in the tantras and well-trained in the scriptures, without service and offerings to the guru and without receiving the scriptures, that one is of no benefit to oneself, and is a small treatise, that one is merely the cause of producing treatises. Or again, a fortunate one obtains the oral instructions, but is dull-witted and does not

Cannot be subdued. To benefit others, one must be skilled in guiding, for without the merit of speech, one will be despised. One must have heard many scriptures, be wise, understand the meaning of words, possess memory, wisdom, understanding, and diligence. One must respect the guru, receive transmission, and be suitable to teach tantras and oral instructions. Thus it is said. This meaning comes from the Vajra Garland. Because it is secret, it is said briefly. For those who are difficult to subdue, who are hypocritical, cunning, ignorant, angry, evil, without faith, argumentative, who approach with signs, who are Shravakas and greedy for wealth, who slander Suchness, who do not understand the ultimate truth, who hold nihilistic views, whose vows are broken, who spread idle gossip, and who associate with evil spirits, etc., one should not do these things. Even if one understands the characteristics of the guru and disciple, one should treat them with respect and without hesitation. Through sutras, tantras, rituals, and the guru's instructions, one should dispel one's doubts. Listen with great faith. There are other reasons as well. Then, the Bhagavan Vajra spoke. The disciple's conduct is, carefulness and so on, through the stages of mantra and yoga, shoes, umbrellas, head ornaments, toothpaste, etc., tasting, mucus, phlegm, etc., discarding and stretching legs, looking elsewhere and speaking arrogantly, being proud of one's lineage and clinging to self, looking at kings, etc., speaking carelessly, not meditating on the guru's instructions, for these collections of faults, one must completely abandon them in front of the guru. With fear, join palms, bow with the crown of the head, and receive instructions. Vow to give up all one's possessions, with amazement and shame on one's face. The disciple should do this in front of the guru. If one desires supreme accomplishment, disciples should learn to behave in this way in front of the guru. The vows and precepts previously mentioned, these are the disciple's conduct. Thus it was declared. Again it was said, the guru, who is the basis of all qualities, in order to attain accomplishment, one must strive, and in order to conquer the hordes of demons, like a crest jewel, one must honor him on the crown of one's head. Because he is completely equal to the bodies, speech, minds, qualities, and activities of all the Buddhas.
