Having done virtuous deeds and made offerings in the heavens and other realms, for countless thousands of kalpas, this is truly and repeatedly obtained. This is the maturation of past karma, and the ignorant ones grieve. By the manner of the appearance of self-nature, whoever causes beings to be afflicted, knowing that itself, the wise one will be liberated from the prison of existence. Thus it was said. To clarify this meaning, in the Sutra Requested by King Tree of Humans or Non-Humans, it is also said: The activities of the mind are unconditioned and non-material, and like the distinctions of what it is, like the wind, there is no obstruction. Knowing the nature of the mind of all the worlds, that is pure, so it is impossible for afflictions to arise. Furthermore, with this reasoning, the great yogi who realizes the complete solitude of the mind will turn towards liberation without relying on the results of virtuous and non-virtuous actions. As the Blessed One said in the Vajra Cutter Sutra: Even Dharma should be abandoned, what need is there to mention non-Dharma? Also, in the great yoga tantra called Guhyasamaja, it is said: Practicing the path of the ten virtuous actions is abandoning wisdom. Thus it was said. Thus, sentient beings, being separated from virtuous friends, not realizing the nature of their own minds as they are, therefore grasping at self and what belongs to self, and contemplating nourishment and accumulation, thereby contemplating virtue and non-virtue, etc., therefore, from beginningless time, they experience suffering. As the Blessed One said in the chapter on virtuous friends in the Eight Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom Sutra: Subhuti asked, "Blessed One, if all phenomena are solitary and empty, Blessed One, how do sentient beings have afflictions? How do they become purified? Blessed One, solitude does not become afflicted, nor does it become purified. Blessed One, emptiness does not become afflicted, nor does it become purified. Blessed One, solitude or emptiness itself does not fully awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment."

Jya! O Blessed One, apart from solitude and emptiness, if there is no Dharma that is more perfectly enlightened than the unsurpassed, perfectly complete and enlightened Bodhi, or perfectly enlightened, or the Dharma of perfectly enlightened, then, O Blessed One, how should I understand the meaning of what you have said? Please teach, O Blessed One, please teach, O Sugata. After asking this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, what do you think? Do sentient beings act in self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self for a long time? Subhuti replied: O Blessed One, it is so. O Sugata, it is so, sentient beings act in self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? However, self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self are empty, aren't they? Subhuti replied: O Blessed One, they are empty. O Sugata, they are empty. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Do sentient beings wander in samsara because of self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self? Subhuti replied: O Blessed One, it is so. O Sugata, it is so, sentient beings wander in samsara because of self-grasping and grasping at what belongs to self. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, thus it seems that sentient beings are also completely defiled, and also appear to be completely purified. After saying this, similarly, in the Sutra of Complete Purification of All Karmic Obscurations, it is also said: Bhikshu, what do you think? Will that which is unborn arise? Will it cease? Will it be completely defiled? Will it become completely purified? He replied: O Blessed One, it will not. The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, what do you think? Will sentient beings go to hell because of the Dharmas that are unborn? Will they go to the animal realm? Will they be born in the realm of Yama? He replied: O Blessed One, since there is no birth, how could there be going to the lower realms? The Blessed One said: Bhikshu, therefore, all Dharmas are thus luminous.
