Those who have not indulged in discriminating thoughts based on the habitual tendencies of inherent existence, such as permanence, when learning the samadhi of the stages of the completion stage, should they learn according to the order as it is, or can they be made to appear distinctly in an instant by just the guru's instructions? The Vajra Master said: One should learn to enter gradually, not suddenly. The Bhagavan also said in the Lankavatara Sutra: Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati, in order to purify the stream of his own mind's appearance, again requested the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, is the stream of one's own mind's appearance purified suddenly or by gradual entry? How does it become purified? The Bhagavan replied: Mahamati, the stream of one's own mind's appearance is purified by gradual entry, not suddenly. For example, Mahamati, the fruit of the mango tree ripens gradually, not suddenly. Mahamati, similarly, the stream of sentient beings' own mind's appearance is also purified gradually, not suddenly. Mahamati, for example, the potter's vessels are made gradually, not suddenly. Mahamati, similarly, the Tathagata also gradually tames the stream of sentient beings' own mind's appearance, not suddenly. Mahamati, for example, grass, trees, vines, medicines, and forests grow from the great earth by gradual entry, not suddenly. Mahamati, similarly, the Tathagata also gradually tames the stream of all sentient beings' own mind's appearance, not suddenly. Mahamati, for example, skill in laughter, musical instruments, song, lute, cymbals, and various musical instruments arises gradually, not suddenly. Mahamati, similarly, the Tathagata also gradually tames the streams of all sentient beings' minds' appearance, not suddenly. This very order is also clearly explained in the Heroic Progress Samadhi Sutra.

Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Steadfast Wisdom then spoke as follows: "Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva train in the Samadhi of Heroic Progress, without focusing on all the objects of training?" Having requested this, the Blessed One spoke to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Steadfast Wisdom as follows: "Steadfast Wisdom, it is like this: for example, a master of archery or a student of archery first trains on a bull's hide. When they are accustomed to the bull's hide, they then shoot at a wooden board. When they are accustomed to the wooden board, they then shoot at a target. When they are accustomed to the target, they then shoot at a shaft. When they are accustomed to the shaft, they then shoot at a hundred hairs. When they are accustomed to the hundred hairs, they then shoot at ten hairs. When they are accustomed to the ten hairs, they then shoot at one hair. When they are accustomed to the one hair, they then shoot at what is indicated by sound. When they shoot at what is indicated by sound, they then shoot without awareness. When they shoot without awareness, then the archery training is complete. If one wishes to do so, then at night in the darkness, whatever sound is made by humans or non-humans, the arrow will unerringly hit the mark. Having become accustomed to shooting at what is indicated by sound, one does not need to train in anything else. Why is that? Because one has already trained well, and everything that needs to be shot becomes manifest to them. Steadfast Wisdom, likewise, a Bodhisattva who abides in this Samadhi of Heroic Progress does not need to train in any other Dharma. Why is that? Because having trained well in that Samadhi itself, all the qualities of a Bodhisattva become manifest. Furthermore, one who wishes to train in the Samadhi of Heroic Progress while abiding in the Vajra Vehicle should also train in this sequence. The sequence is as follows: first, one should train in the intention of the Buddha Vehicle. When the

When one becomes accustomed to the view of the Lesser Vehicle, one trains in the one-pointed samadhi of the Great Vehicle. When one becomes accustomed to the one-pointed samadhi of the Great Vehicle, one trains in conceptual yoga. When one becomes accustomed to conceptual yoga, one becomes firmly established in the samadhi of a beginner. When one abides in the samadhi of a beginner, one enters into the hundredfold divisions. When, through the hundredfold divisions, one knows that the body is completely isolated, one becomes established in the vajra samadhi of the body. Having abided in the complete isolation of the body, one enters into the complete isolation of speech through the door of vowels and consonants. When, through the order of vajra recitation, one comes to know the breath and effort, the vajra samadhi of speech becomes clear. Having abided in the complete isolation of speech, one enters into the samadhi of mind through the order of naturally appearing. Having abided in the complete knowledge of mind as it is, one enters into the conventional truth of the twelve examples of illusion. When one enters into the samadhi of illusion-like, one obtains the empowerment of the Buddha. When one obtains the empowerment, having abided in the samadhi of illusion-like, one enters into the ultimate truth through the order of the eighteen great emptinesses. When, through the samadhi of grasping the whole and grasping after, one enters into the true limit, all afflictions will become completely purified. When, for the sake of the arising of the order of wisdom, the yogi of non-duality of the two truths, naturally luminous, manifestly and completely awakens to himself, then one trains in the complete samadhi. When a yogi who enters into the complete samadhi no longer trains in any dharma. Why is that? Because one has previously trained well, it manifests through the power of the previous momentum. Therefore, what is obtained gradually is the Great Vajradhara himself. It is obtained by meditating on the five stages, and one yogi meditates on all. The light of any one stage
