Letters, words, and speech all abandon their own nature, and even the sound of other meanings is not evident. How can sound not perish after those perish? Therefore, the mere term of sound is imputed, not a cause of certainty. For example, analogy is not a valid means of knowledge, because it possesses three characteristics: the analogy, what arises from the analogy, and the common characteristic. For example, something similar to a cow is not a cow. In this case, a person who has seen something similar to a cow causes some people who have not seen something similar to a cow to understand, because it shares characteristics such as the tail that a cow possesses, saying, "Something similar to a cow is not a cow." Thus, he understands that it is not a cow. Similarly, here, the manifoldness of Brahma is not an analogy for the manifoldness of things, nor are other things, because there is no characteristic that is similar to it. Brahma is formless, and things are all with form, so what can be used as an analogy? The force of meaning also does not provide certainty. For example, saying that the great god does not eat during the day, the force of meaning determines that he eats at night. Similarly, there is no manifoldness in the meanings of words. It is unreasonable to say that Brahma has it through the force of meaning, because the manifoldness of things is evident. The force of meaning is when one thing is negated, another characteristic is necessarily determined. That is also not present in things and Brahma. Non-existence of things is also not a valid means of knowledge, because it has four aspects: prior non-existence, non-existence due to destruction, mutual non-existence, and absolute non-existence. Among these, prior non-existence is milk turning into yogurt. Non-existence due to destruction is a pot being destroyed by contact with a hammer. Mutual non-existence is wool and a pot, etc. Absolute non-existence is a rabbit's horn, etc. The non-existence of things is a valid means of knowledge in a place where things do not exist, but not in a place where things exist. How can it establish the characteristic of things, which is the manifoldness of Brahma, since negation is the main thing? The possibility of butter in yogurt and oil in sesame seeds is not a valid means of knowledge, because oil does not come from sesame seeds grown in infertile soil. Considering the majority is not a cause of certainty.

Because it is deceptive, the assumption that it exists is not valid. It cannot be determined that there is harm in this tree or a flesh-eater in this house. Sometimes, because they go elsewhere from there, and due to the power of those who know mantras, the harms and so on that are driven away do not remain there. Similarly, here, the various manifestations of Brahma are not caused by things. What is unseen, by its nature, for kalpas, flesh-eaters, and so on, it is reasonable to determine by "thinking." If the various manifestations are obvious, how can they be determined by "thinking"? Therefore, how can those who have firm faith in Brahma itself and its various manifestations, which are not established by the eight valid cognitions, be liberated? Therefore, the side that speaks of the peaceful Brahma is also refuted. If Brahma itself is the peace that has not arisen from the various manifestations of things, how do these things appear in various forms? It is unreasonable to think that they are also peaceful, because it contradicts valid cognition. Because there is no such thing as "unreasonable" for what is seen. If only illusion is the variety of things, then is illusion different from it or non-different? If they are different, then both illusion and Brahma itself exist, so they are different. Brahma is non-dual, so it is contradictory. If they are non-different, then Brahma itself has become the nature of illusion, so it will not become that reality. If it is allowed to be without illusion, then why does it create illusion? For the unchanging, there is no elaboration, like the sky. Therefore, the side that speaks of the peaceful Brahma is unreasonable, this is the answer of the logician. They are said to be abiding in the six teachings, having inverted minds. Those with definite minds are of four types: Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, Yogacharas, and Madhyamikas. Among them, the doctrine of the Hearers is the Four Noble Truths: suffering, origin, cessation, and path. Among them, two truths exist with the distinction of cause and effect, which is samsara. There are also two truths that are the cessation of suffering beyond the distinction of cause and effect. Among them, with the distinction of the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, there are ninety afflictions.
