Only following and opposing things is the cause. Such reasoning does not exist in sound and things. Why? Even if there are things like vases, a person connected to one thing cannot make a sound, and even if there are no things, consciousness with concepts can independently make sounds, just like the sounds of a wheel-turning king and the ocean. Therefore, since there is no following and opposing things, there is no connection between sound and things arising from it. To this it is said: There is no connection of one's own characteristics, only the connection established through universal characteristics. For example, in consciousness with concepts, the image of things that appears in a universal way, precisely in order to make the other person understand, produces the sound that becomes the result. The universal sound image also generates concepts in the listener's mindstream. Therefore, whatever is the object of sound is also the object of various concepts. Therefore, there is only a nominal connection between sound and things. Relying on it for detailed analysis, even for one's own characteristics, the application of sound is not the main one. This connection also transforms into six types: Thus Gone One, goddess, bodhisattva, god, non-human, and humans. Among them, initially these beings were in darkness, existing in the nature of emptiness. Then, those who dwell in the form realm of the fourth dhyana, those who dwell in the sphere of infinite space, those who dwell in the sphere of infinite consciousness, those who dwell in the sphere of nothingness, and those who dwell in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, due to the long duration, just like being intoxicated by alcohol, the habitual tendencies of desire will arise. Immediately after that, they transformed into tangible objects. Then, due to attachment and close association, the essence of nectar flowed from their bodies like rain. Those that fell also formed a yellow color, and the earth part became mud. Again, due to the influence of time, it split into four pieces, forming the four continents, and in the center, the king of Mount Meru truly appeared. Then
