It arises from clinging to the characteristics of the form of one's own conceptualization. Mahamati, the speech of dreams arises from remembering previously experienced objects, as if there were no object of conceptualization. Mahamati, the speech arising from clinging to bad states arises from the power of the actions previously done by sentient beings. Mahamati, words of conceptualization from beginningless time arise from the habituation of the self-seed of bad states of clinging to elaboration from beginningless time. Mahamati, these are the four characteristics of speech conceptualization, arising from the question of the king of the non-human. By reversing these, transcendent speech manifests, and vajra-like speech is perfected, and upon hearing collections of words such as praise and blame, one does not become happy or unhappy, thus the order of vajra recitation is shown. After speech is completely purified, one should strive to completely purify the mind, and there are two methods for this: the order of mantra and the order of mudra. Among these, the order of mantra should be understood as follows: First, the mind has eight aspects: the alaya-vijñana, the afflicted one, the five senses, and the mind-consciousness. These eight consciousnesses are briefly summarized into three: the vipaka-vijñana, the afflicted mind, and the pravrtti-vijñana. These three consciousnesses cause sentient beings to go and come in the realm of samsara, thus revolving. As it is said: From hell one goes to the realm of pretas, and again one is born in the realm of gods. From the transformation of these states, liberation is attained by preceding with the clear light of Suchness. As it is said: The mind itself, stained by desire and so forth, is said to be samsara; being completely separated from that, the Victorious Ones have briefly spoken of liberation. The symbols of these three consciousnesses are: mind, intellect, and consciousness, appearance and the arising of appearance and the obtaining of appearance, wisdom and means and the obtaining of nearness. Moon and sun and darkness. Night and day and boundary and emptiness.
