In each and every stage, the explanation of luminosity is to show that it pervades everything with suchness, but it is not completely perfect in itself. The very act of doing is the samadhi of union. As it is said: This is the perfect yoga, The great Vajradhara himself, Possessing all supreme aspects, The all-knowing also arises from this. Similarly, it is also said: Having abided in the samadhi of union, what else is there to learn? Therefore, a yogi relies on the five stages and attains accomplishment in the state of fruition. The sequence to be stated in the eighteenth chapter, to be attained by a single yogi who meditates, is like the state of Vajradhara. In the eighteenth chapter of the root tantra, the yogi is not shown to meditate on each of the eighteen separately, but it is only one. Apart from the two stages, nothing else is mentioned. The meditator of these is one, as previously stated. The distinction of individuals can be explained by the distinction of what is said. The Bhagavan Buddhas, who are skilled in means, know the differences in the minds of sentient beings, and having known the differences in the faculties of sentient beings, they teach in accordance with them. The differences are not shown with regard to the fruit, because it is of one nature. The paths are only different, and it is not to establish the difference of suchness, which is the fruit of the path, just as a great city can be reached by many paths. Even the single suchness of different inclinations is perceived differently by the listeners. For example, the Shravakas understand it through the gate of cessation samadhi, while the Sutrantikas understand it through the way in which the external object exists separately, inferring it accordingly. The Sākāra-vijñānavādins understand it through the way in which the aspect of consciousness knows that the external object exists. The Nirākāra-vijñānavādin understands it through the way in which there is only one consciousness, which is necessarily liberated from external objects, like the immaculate, boundless sky. And some Madhyamikas understand it with the grasper and the grasped.

Liberated from quiescence, utterly pacified and free from elaboration, grasping solely through the nature of emptiness manifesting various phenomena, and the yogi of the Kriya Tantra grasping solely through meditating on the form of the deity, and the yogi of the Charya Tantra possessing attainments, samadhi, and magical powers, through meditating on the mantra body. The yogi who primarily belongs to the Yoga Tantra, the yogi who primarily focuses on mantras and mudras, through the stages of meditating on the great mandala of the Vajradhatu and so forth. The yogi of the Maha Yoga Tantra through the two stages. Among them, the yogi of the generation stage grasps Suchness through the three samadhis. The yogi of the completion stage grasps Suchness through grasping the subtle yoga. Some also desire it through the stages of meditating on the yoga of bindus. Some also through meditating on the channels through which the channels circulate everywhere. Some also grasp through the mandala of vows. Some also within it through the secret mandala by means of secret empowerment. Other others also solely through grasping the mind of enlightenment. Still others through reversing it (the mind of enlightenment) upwards. Some also through the stages of meditating on enjoying objects and senses and separately gathering them. Other others also through the nature of its completely pure essence, that is, the nature of the five Tathagatas, through the stages of the five dhyanas such as discrimination and analysis. Some also through the nature of the three winds that move above and below, that is, the life force and the working force, they certainly grasp Suchness. Similarly, other others also by holding at the tip of the three noses, holding the bindu of wind, mantra, and bodhicitta. Some also by emanating infinite emanations, filling the expanse of space by spreading out, and meditating on the limb of recollection. Some also by gathering all things closely and abandoning one and many and so forth, through the stages of non-dual samadhi. Some meditate on the Suchness of mantra or the Suchness of wind. Some also meditate on mantra and mudra.
