A Commentary Explaining 'The Clear Meaning Which Illuminates the Lamp' A Commentary Explaining 'The Clear Meaning Which Illuminates the Lamp' Chapter One: Extensive Explanation of the Empowerment of the Mandala of Samadhi of All Tathagatas. In Sanskrit: Pradipa Udyotana Anosandhi Prakashika Nama Vyakhya Tika. In Tibetan: A Commentary Explaining 'The Clear Meaning Which Illuminates the Lamp'. Homage to Vajradhara! The glorious net of thoughts, the sun that destroys the multitude of various darknesses. One who strives to completely abandon even existence and non-existence, the body of no-self-nature. Extremely attached, the goddess with a mind, truly embracing the touch of Vajra Mother. Surrounded by the mandala assembly, the incomparable Vajrasattva, I bow to him. In the solitary place of samsara, which is completely surrounded by the net of many thoughts, Like a thief, who carries the world to a very difficult place. That which exists, causes sentient beings to be born, those aggregates of elements. Truly purified, manifesting the lineage lord, the noble lady, the eye, etc., I bow. Having purified the five aggregates, which take up impure forms, etc., Like the center of the sky, clear as crystal, the five wisdoms. Generating the same taste. With the body of skillful means and wisdom, benefiting beings, possessing diligence. Self-arisen, permanent, etc., the supreme assembly of conquerors, I pay homage to them. By whom the senses are certainly weakened, Like a swarm of bees by a collection of lotus fragrances. By whom are those pacified? To Rupa Vajra Mother, etc., I pay homage. The collection of objects of the senses, such as forms, is the cause of great deterioration. What is grasped by the desire for momentary pleasure? By whom are those senses made victorious? To Ksitigarbha, etc., I always bow with my head. Those who torment all beings and protect the world, Completely subduing and causing entry into the supreme vehicle, Adorned with limbs by a host of serpent lords and wrathful, To Yama, the Lord of Death, and other wrathful kings, I pay homage. In the city of Kongkana.

On the summit of the auspicious mountain, In a place secluded from people, If one first dwells there, It is equal to the lord of humans and gods. The one who proclaimed the supreme Dharma, In the presence of Rahula, May this one be victorious in this world. Joy arises from this, Attained by the Mahayana yogi, Having attained the ground, striving for the benefit of others, May glorious Nagarjuna be victorious! The precious jewel obtained from this, Having attained it, is renowned in the three realms. Gathering, crossing beyond the ocean of suffering for beings, Chandrakirti, the elucidator, may he be victorious! The commentary made by him, Is profound by explaining the six limits. These, now all of us, The fortunate Chandrakirti will clearly explain. In this great Mantra Vehicle, on the banks of the Nairanjana River, just as Prince Sarvarthasiddhi, urged by all the Tathagatas, attained the wisdom of omniscience and went to the Tushita heaven, relying on the four reasons such as the tantras, for the sake of guiding the future sentient beings whose minds are afflicted by the five degenerations, residing in a palace whose basis is the source of Dharma, the nature of various jewels, delighting the mandala assembly, the great glorious Vajradhara, entreated by the five Tathagatas, from the distinctions of thought, latent tendencies, elements, and habitual patterns, spoke of five kinds of mantra treatises, namely the distinctions of Kriya, Charya, Yoga, and Yoga-uttara tantras. Among these, the tantras that describe mandalas, circumambulation, fire offerings, consecration, bathing at the three times, changing clothes at the three times, fasting, and so on, are the Kriya tantras, such as the emergence of Tara and so on. Asceticism, accomplishments, and miracles being the main focus, and so on, are the Charya tantras, such as the glorious Supreme First Buddha and the Vairochana Abhisambodhi tantras. The Yoga tantras, with the four mudras, mandalas, and samadhi as the main focus, are like the glorious Tattvasamgraha and so on. The tantras that separately teach the generation stage and the completion stage, and so on, are the Yoga-uttara tantras, such as the glorious Guhyasamaja and so on.
