If it is said to be like the sound of space, then, words, terms, and speech all abandon their own essence, and only the sound of other meanings cannot be determined. How can sound not perish after those (words, terms, and speech) have perished? Therefore, the mere term of sound is an imputation and not a definite cause. For example, an analogy is not a valid cognition because it possesses three characteristics: the analogy, what arises from the analogy, and the common characteristic. For example, something like a cow is not a cow. Because a person who has seen a non-cow sees the common characteristics such as the hide that exists on the cow, some people who have not seen a non-cow understand that something like a cow is not a cow. Thus, he understands that it is the non-cow of the cow. Similarly, here, the manifoldness of Brahma cannot be exemplified by the manifoldness of things, nor by anything else, because there is no characteristic similar to it. Brahma is formless, and things are with form, so what can be used as an example? There is also no certainty through the force of implication. For example, saying "Devadatta does not eat during the day" implies that he eats at night. Similarly, there is no manifoldness in the meanings of words. It is unreasonable to say that Brahma has manifoldness through the force of implication, because the manifoldness of things is what is ascertained. The force of implication is when another characteristic is definitely ascertained by negating one. But that does not exist in things and Brahma. Non-existence of things is also not a valid cognition, because it has four aspects: prior non-existence, non-existence due to destruction, mutual non-existence, and absolute non-existence. Among these, prior non-existence is milk becoming yogurt. Non-existence due to destruction is a vase being destroyed by being struck. Mutual non-existence is wool and a vase. Absolute non-existence is like a rabbit's horn. The non-existence of things is a valid cognition in a place where things do not exist, but it is not in a place where things exist. So how can it prove the characteristic of things, which is the manifoldness of Brahma? Because negation is the main thing. It is not a valid cognition that there may be butter in yogurt, or that there may be oil in sesame seeds, because oil does not come from sesame seeds grown in infertile soil. This refers to most cases.

Thinking that (feeling) is the cause of certainty, because it is deceptive, even existence is not a valid cognition. For example, it is not certain that there is a yaksha in this tree, or that there is a flesh-eating ghost in this house. Sometimes, because they go elsewhere from there, and because of the connection of the power of those who know mantras, the expelled yakshas and so on do not remain there. Similarly, here, the various manifestations of Brahma do not deceive things. If it is thought that the unseen is essentially a robber, a flesh-eating ghost, etc., then it is reasonable to decide through "thinking." If the various manifestations are obvious, then how can one decide through "thinking"? Therefore, how can faithful people who abide in Brahma itself and its various manifestations, which are not established by the eight valid cognitions, be liberated? Therefore, the view that advocates peaceful Brahma is also refuted. If Brahma itself is the peaceful, unarisen variety of things, how do these things appear in various forms? It is unreasonable to think that they are also peaceful, because this contradicts valid cognition. Because there is no saying of "unreasonable" for what is seen. If only illusion is the variety of things, then is illusion different from or not different from Brahma? If it is different, then it means that there are both illusion and Brahma itself. This contradicts the statement that Brahma is non-dual. If it is non-different, then Brahma itself becomes the nature of illusion, so it will not become Suchness. If it is allowed to be without illusion, then why does it produce illusion? For the unchanging, there is no play, like the sky. Therefore, the logicians refute the view that advocates peaceful Brahma. They are said to abide in the six teachings, having inverted wisdom. Those with decisive wisdom are of four types: Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, Yogacharas, and Madhyamikas. Among them, the theory of the Hearers is the Four Noble Truths: suffering, origin, cessation, and path. Among them, two truths are the cycle of cause and effect. The other two truths are the nirvana of cause and effect. Among them, the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm,

Having seen the ninety-eight afflictions with view, and having abandoned them through the path of meditation, and mainly engaging in the absorption of cessation, the Śrāvaka's enlightenment, which only possesses self-interest, will be attained. The wishes of those people are, what is the use of doing the benefit of others? My own benefit is what should be accomplished. Such things and so on will occur. Those people believe that the person is without self, but they believe that the aggregates and other dharmas have self, and they are attached to the grasped and the grasper. Therefore, the liberation of those people is not pure, so it is said that they are not vessels for the great vehicle of mantra. As it is said: Those who abide in the position of a monk, those who are thinkers, and those who are old, do not show them this. So it is said. The Sutra school believes that external objects can be known through inference. External objects are not established by one or many, and even without external objects, the arising of consciousness will not become other, so it is inference, just like the eye sense. Thus, through inference, the Sutra school's external object proponents, like the previous ones, their liberation is impure, so they are also not suitable vessels for mantra. The Yogācāra practitioners are of two types, those who speak of with-image and those who speak of without-image. Among them, all things that appear separately as external objects are their own images, because they appear as their own images. Whatever object that appears as its own image exists, just like consciousness. Other things that appear as a vase and so on do not exist by themselves, whatever is other is consciousness. Saying that meaning is not established by one or many, so their tenet is not true. If meaning does not exist, then what does consciousness rely on to arise? Because there is consciousness, there is consciousness. Therefore, the Mind-Only school is self-contradictory, because they want consciousness but prevent meaning. If the grasped and the grasper are mistaken conceptualizations, then at that time consciousness will also become mistaken. Even if they admit it, their liberation will become impure. Or why is it impure? We have three natures, the completely imputed, the other-powered, and the perfect.
