It exists only in the first characteristic, but not in the second. Therefore, the non-conceptual self-nature is not the object of direct perception. Whatever is its object is not a valid means of knowledge, because Brahman itself exists, so direct perception does not apply. Inference is also the same, because inference is based on the prior cognition of the relationship between the sign and the sign-possessor, like smoke and fire. No sign of Brahman as its result has been seen, because it does not occur without seeing it, so Brahman itself, as the sign-possessor, should be inferred. If it is said that because the result of seeing all things arising from it, it should be inferred, that is also unreasonable. Because what produces the result is the cause itself, and when the result arises, the cause disappears, so it is not permanent. Do you not consider the nature of Brahman itself to be permanent? Even if it is temporarily considered a cause, why does it not produce a result similar to itself, but produces a reversed result, no reason is seen. For example, because some gods, etc., are seen to be happy, and some pretas, etc., are seen to be suffering. If it is said that its diversity is like that, then is the said diversity different from it, or not different? If it is different, then Brahman itself will not become like that. If it is not different, then the essence that is the same as its self-nature will become a pleasant form, because the form of Brahman is joy. As it is said. But that is not seen, therefore, there is no inference through the result. Or, in order to eliminate that fault, if it is conceived to infer through the cause. For example: bees, buffaloes, snakes, etc., and the black radiance of Tamala, clouds similar to that, rainfall never deceives. As it is said, if Brahman is not the self-nature of all things, then diversity will not arise either. To this it is answered: inference through the cause is deceptive, therefore it is uncertain. For example: even from clouds that spread in ten directions and have a very dark color, sometimes there is no rain. In the warm time of the sun, even from small clouds, rain falls.

In seeing with small things, inferring the result from the cause is purely deceptive. Therefore, the appearance of ants and the jumping of fish, etc., are negated. If it is said that inference based on seeing universal phenomena is speculation, then, for example, before building houses, etc., seeing the flourishing growth of vegetation, one should infer that the growth of forest medicines, etc., will also occur earlier. Therefore, the diversity of Brahma itself is the cause of the diversity of things. The diversity of word meanings should also be inferred as the diversity of Brahma. This is also reasonable because those who speak of the diversity of Brahma desire things to have the nature of Brahma. In the aspect of inference based on seeing universal phenomena, one will fall into separate and independent states. Why? Because the meanings of words exist independently, so the diversity of Brahma is certain, and Brahma also exists independently, so the meanings of words are diverse. Therefore, even deception lacks certainty. For example, inference based on seeing universal phenomena is considered deceptive because the growth of houses, etc., is vigorous, and vegetation grows earlier, so one cannot infer that forests, etc., will also grow vigorously. Some forests, etc., will not grow even if there is flowing water, and some can even see illusions conjured by magicians. Therefore, this inference is unreliable. That which arises from sound is also not a valid means of knowledge because, according to the previous discussion of the diversity of Brahma, there is no connection between sound and meaning. If sound cannot even separately express meaning, then how can it express its diversity? Even if it can be expressed in a universal form, the inherent characteristics of sound, together with the inherent characteristics of meaning, lack the characteristics of expressing and being expressed. Universality has already been negated earlier, so how can one regard it as a valid means of knowledge? Because it is momentary, there is also no certainty. Because sound arises from place, action, and human effort, it disappears immediately after being spoken, and it does not exist in itself, so how can it understand meaning? Because one cannot simultaneously notice each of ka, a, tsheg drag (Tibetan letters), etc. The sound that can be heard by the ear is only a part of understanding, such as a bell.
