Energy, dust, and darkness are the three qualities. Among these, energy makes things light and clear, with virtuous habits as the main factor, and is the cause of higher realms. Dust is movement, causing agitation and bondage, and is the cause of hell. Darkness is heavy and obscures, being the nature of non-virtue and the cause of hell itself. As it is said: Energy is desired to be light and clear. Dust is said to be the binding movement. Darkness is heavy and obscures. In reality, it exists like a lamp. Thus it is said. In this way, the three qualities of energy and so on become of one taste. Being the cause of the senses and so on, the permanent nature is to be inferred through action, like fire. That does not become the object of its own form, because it is subtle. That which is not an object also becomes sevenfold. For example, a bird flying in the sky is very far away, eyelashes are very close to the eye sense, the blind and others with impaired senses cannot see forms, the insane and others with unstable minds cannot see objects, and the subtle and so on cannot be seen because of subtlety. Because of overwhelming, wind and weapons and so on harm, and because of similarity and encounter, milk, water, sesame, and rice wine and so on. Here, because of the subtle nature, it is not an object, so it is to be measured by the result. As it is said: Because of being very far and very near, because of impaired senses and unstable mind, because of subtlety itself and overwhelming, likewise, similar things gather together mutually. Because of subtlety, that is not an object itself, that is not non-existent, it becomes an object through action. That action is also great and so on, nature and same and different. Thus it is said and so on. There, the way of cause and effect is that from nature arises intelligence, and from that arises pride. From that itself also arise the five senses of intelligence, the five senses of action, the five tanmatras, and mind will also arise. From the five types of tanmatras arise the great elements, the nature of the three qualities, which will arise, perish again and again, and arise again, thus in the way of cause and effect, sentient beings completely revolve in samsara.

Therefore, it is because of knowing non-duality. By knowing duality, liberation is attained from Prakriti (Nature) and Purusha (Individual Soul) by saying, "This is Prakriti, and this is Purusha." Purusha is the seer, stainless, like the appearance of crystal. By mere abandonment, everything is seen through the door of Prakriti. Even having seen, because Prakriti is forceful, it cannot be seen. From the two causes of virtue and non-virtue, birth arises, and the fruit of the characteristics of life and enjoyment is experienced. As it is said: By virtue, one goes upwards; by non-virtue, one goes downwards. By wisdom, one attains liberation; by perversion, one is considered bound. Thus it is said. Therefore, Purushas are many. Why? If there were only one, then if one Purusha were liberated, all would have to be liberated. If one were born or died, all would have to be the same. Prakriti, even though inanimate, causes Purusha to enter into good and bad actions, like milk. As it is said: By the cause of producing a calf, inanimate matter arises like milk. Thus, for the sake of liberating Purusha, the dominant Prakriti causes entry. Thus it is said. Thus, the twenty-three realities, together with Prakriti, are inanimate. Because there is no difference, they completely revolve in the cycle of fourteen kinds of beings. Liberation is attained merely by completely knowing the difference. Although Prakriti is inanimate, by virtue of being connected with Purusha, it causes all things to enter and withdraw, like a blind man and a lame man. Like the connection of a lame man and a blind man, these actions done by it are accomplished. Thus it is said. That distinction also arises by completely knowing the sixty meanings of words: the lord exists and is unique, has meaning and is other than that, is for the sake of others and is many, is separate and is not separate, the remaining state and is not the agent. Meaning is explained as ten lords. The distinctions of perversion are five, and because the action is incomplete, it is not possible. It is called having twenty-eight distinctions, nine joys, and eight accomplishments. Thus it is said in the Sutra.

This is the explanation. The detailed explanation is the five inversions: darkness, ignorance, great ignorance, thick darkness, and extremely thick darkness. The incompleteness of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body; the incompleteness of speech, hands, feet, anus, and secret organ; and the incompleteness of mind, totaling eleven. The incompleteness of joy and accomplishment makes the sixth consciousness seventeen. Discerning sound and grasping color, and eliminating suffering, these three are meeting with a spiritual friend. Giving, faith, and accomplishment are eight kinds. As it is said. Arising from the superior god, arising from the superior element, and arising from the nature within the superior, eliminating these, the three accomplishments are joy. The eight accomplishments with characteristics such as subtlety, and the nine joys. When a person individually sees the sixty meanings of words, at that time, he is liberated. This should also be established by valid cognition, namely, direct perception, inference, and trustworthy words, these are the three valid cognitions. Among them, twenty-three truths should be established by direct perception, because it is said that conceptualization arising in their respective objects is direct perception. Nature is the nature of the three qualities, which should be established by inference, because it is hidden. Birth, life, and enjoyment are inferred after general observation. Liberation and other extremely hidden things are known through trustworthy words. Thus, those with valid cognition are the cause of the terms of bondage and liberation, which is the doctrine of Samkhya. It is said therein: For the time being, the initial twenty-five truths do not exist, because mind, intellect, and ego are the same. Here, merely with the determination that "I have understood the external object," intellect and pride are not different from mind. The determination that "only mind I have understood" will arise as self. Some say that the discriminator is the mind, which is unreasonable, because the discrimination of individual nature is already included in the determination of general nature. If the difference of things is not determined, then discrimination will not arise. The difference between "I have understood" and "I am the understander" is not different from determination.
