This is to say that only the guru's instructions can be used to measure. This subtle samadhi can only be attained through the guru's instructions; it cannot be attained through other external paths, etc. This is what the teacher said: "Not through external methods, even the treatises are far away." Why? The teacher said: "Treatises are easy to obtain, but their meaning is difficult to obtain." So how should one understand? The teacher said: "Through the yogi who is skilled in means." etc. Now, the teacher explains the method of reciting mantras, saying: "The dharma that precedes the mind." etc. Among them, mind is the mind that is the basis of consciousness. Mind is the beginning of all dharmas. For example, among body, speech, and mind, the action of mind occurs first, because body and speech act after the mind has thought. Therefore, it is also said in the Abhidharmakosha: "Mind is the action of mind; it produces the actions of body and speech." "Mind is pure and mind goes" refers to the pure mind, not body and speech. For example, it means that even if the actions of body and speech are impure, it will not become a fault for a yogi whose mind is pure. As it is said: "The thoughts of a Bodhisattva, whether happy or unwholesome, will all become wholesome, therefore the mind is autonomous." Why? Because "mind goes," the mind tends towards the habits of good and unwholesome, and towards liberation from suffering. Therefore, "in all mind objects" refers to the objects of body, speech, and mind. This is its meaning. Therefore, the wise yogi should strive to purify the mind and do it diligently. After showing body, speech, and mind as the main, it is said that there is no other, and the meaning is explained. "If the yogi wants to recite, he should abandon meaningless thoughts." This means that it is impossible for the yogi to abandon the mind and recite elsewhere, because the actions of body and speech are themselves form. Why? Because the external of the cause is the seed, and only it can truly see the mantras of action arising from form, etc., because it is letters, arising dependently. For example, so and so.

When uttering the word "Shāntiṃ Kuru," merely saying "Shāntiṃ" will not produce the sound of "Shāntiṃ Kuru." If one says "Shīntiṃ Kuru," it will become "Shāntiṃ Mo." Similarly, just saying "Shā" will not produce "Tiṃ Mo." Just saying "Tiṃ" will become "Shā." Likewise, just saying these two syllables, there is no "Mo." Just saying "Mo" will become "Shāntiṃ Mo." Therefore, the mantras that are recited are merely speculations on the manifestation of dependent origination; they are not ultimately true. Having thus shown the nature of mantras, the method of reciting mantras is taught, which is: "Forms and other worldly enjoyments, seeds are recited and joined." This means that by meditating on forms and so on as the true conventional truth with the letter "Hūṃ," with that accumulation of merit, in this existence, it will be made into the fruit of enjoyment. What is the mantra to be recited? It is said, "All are revered," and so on. Among them, "All are revered" refers to the nature of Vairocana, which is the crescent moon and bindu, because it is the very essence of the utterly pure dharmadhatu, the very essence of wisdom. Similarly, "Located on the crown" means that the crescent moon and bindu should always be placed on top of the head of the letter "Hūṃ." "Always making the root the top" means "Below, always attaching the foot as the origin." Only showing these two meanings, that is, "With the bindu having taste." So, what is such a seed? It is said, "The seed itself is wisdom consciousness," which is the letter "Hūṃ." Even if mantras are recited for the sake of worldly enjoyments, they should be recited without sound or words, but only with the mind, which shows, "Enjoying worldly enjoyments, abandoning soundless words, being endowed with mental recitation." This is wanting to show the eight characteristics, spoken by the Bhagavan, "Immovable, constant, abiding in means," and so on. Among them, "Immovable" is because it is indestructible. "Constant" is because it is uninterrupted. "Abiding in means" is because with these two, it is the nature of abiding in means. "Constant" is because it is the very cause of the Tathagatas. "The very dharmadhatu" is because it is the cause of the noble dharma. "Continuously subtle"
