Therefore, these are explained by this noble verse as the stains of samadhi for those who meditate on the path. Not only do these stains of samadhi take away (merit), but also killing and so on. "Jewel" refers to the jewel of the excellent path. Rtag tu refers to the three times. Killing refers to killing sentient beings. Lying refers to speaking untruthfully. Taking what is not given refers to stealing the property of others. Another's woman refers to engaging in sexual misconduct. Harsh speech refers to making others unhappy. Slanderous speech refers to words that separate others with an afflicted mind. Idle talk refers to words that generate attachment, such as haha hihi, which are disturbed by desire and so on. Covetousness refers to having wrong thoughts about the property of others. Harmful intent refers to the mind that wants to harm. Wrong view refers to the view of non-existence. Similarly, the five existing evils are harming and so on. The five near evils are divination and so on. Killing refers to killing cows and so on, the five. Hatred refers to the five kinds of hatred towards friends and so on. The five senses, such as the eyes, are completely attached, because this is a collection of five, so the fifth is five kinds, that is, those thieves. Thus it is said: Abandon harming and untruth, another's woman, likewise another's property and alcoholic beverages. Samsara is the vajra rope, these are the five evils that bring one's own virtue to an end. Divination, impure food, evil words, reading, and the dharma of ghosts, demigods, and powerful beings. Killing cows, children, women, men, and the teachers of gods and humans, these five should not be done. Hatred is also held towards friends, lords, and the teachers of gods and humans, the sangha, and those who are trustworthy. The senses are completely attached, and the conduct of the lords of humans is twenty-five. So it is said. Actions called sinful cause obstacles, and also include those who commit the five inexpiable sins. These not only take away the jewel of the excellent path, but also take away very delicious food and drink, and all kinds of enjoyment.

Eating means excessively consuming meat and so on. Drinking is known as drinking alcohol and so on. Excessively refers to the qualities of fainting and so on. Because it should be enjoyed, enjoyment refers to flower garlands, sandalwood, women, bedding, and so on, which are diverse and very beautiful. Also for those who possess diligence, that is, those who are delighted in meditating on the path. Just said, not only those who possess steadfast diligence, but also those who do not possess steadfast diligence, that is the meaning of the word "also." Carelessness refers to excessively eating and drinking and so on, and associating with unwholesome friends. From that, fainting, that is, becoming separated from the mind, is only what robs. Being very delighted in the various kinds of worldly enjoyments is what obstructs even those who do good deeds. So, in that way, isn't it that the faults of obstructing are spoken of with the intention of fully realizing the precious path? What is there to say when one is not oneself a complete realizer of the path? Because, because one is not oneself a realizer, one shows it to another cunning great deceiver, in order to know whether this is a precious jewel of great value. He says it is not. Then from that, that is, from the words of the cunning one, one abandons it. Likewise, a person of corrupt wisdom abandons even a good, priceless path jewel from the words of sinful arrogance, even if they obtain it. Thus, for those who seek to fully realize the precious path, the fault of associating closely with sinful friends is also spoken of. So, in that way, if one has completely recognized the precious path, how should one act since one is not oneself a complete realizer? That is true. That is, if one causes those who, from the occasion, fully realize the great jewel, to be realized, then with the pure speech of those people, that is, with infallible words, one should clearly and completely recognize and ascertain that this is a priceless jewel. Likewise, a son of good family, having obtained the precious path from the words of a spiritual friend, this is priceless.
