It is not because of fear. From where does such a path arise? It is through the kindness of the excellent guru that the pure path appears to pure disciples. The term 'guru' means one who is heavy with qualities. 'Excellent' means one who exists at all times with the nature of permanence, possessing qualities that transcend the world. The term 'disciple' means one who is disciplined and able to keep the precepts, without regard for son, wife, body, etc., and who is pure by being free from root downfalls, etc. To such a disciple, through the kindness of the excellent guru, the ultimate path will be attained. What kind of thought should such a disciple possess? One who has compassion for all sentient beings, and who always strives for the good of others. 'One who has compassion for all sentient beings at all times' means one who regards all sentient beings as if they were their only child. Abandoning one's own affairs, diligently accomplishing the affairs of others that are beneficial in this life and the next, such a person is fit to be shown the ultimate

It is called laziness. Laziness means not meditating immediately after receiving (the teachings), thinking of meditating later. Arrogance means having pride in scriptures and so on, as well as the true nature of the world. It is explained that the faults of these and so on will rob the precious jewels of the path, that is: Staying in the food in one's own home, it will rob the precious jewels of the excellent path. Furthermore, who will rob it? Killing, lying, not giving, other women and harsh words, divisive speech, frivolous speech and tormenting thoughts, harmful thoughts, thieves of wrong views, root sins and near sins, etc. The so-called root sins are the four such as killing; the so-called near sins are drinking alcohol, and singing and dancing and impure food, speaking evil words, and worldly dharma, and non-Buddhist dharma. Killing and hatred, attachment to the senses, etc. Killing means killing women, killing men, killing children, killing cows, destroying images, etc. Hatred means hating the teacher, hating friends, hating the Sangha, hating the Buddha, hating breathing. Attachment to the senses means attachment to form, attachment to sound, attachment to smell, attachment to taste, attachment to touch, these five, which are twenty-five, these thieves will always rob the precious jewels. Furthermore, very delicious food and drink, the thieves of various enjoyments are certain. These indigestible foods, and the food and drink that makes people crazy, the thieves of decoration and ornamentation, etc., who will they rob? Even if one has diligence, one will be robbed. That is, even if one is able to practice non-dual wisdom, one will not accomplish the five desirable qualities. Therefore, before experiencing non-dual wisdom, the initial practitioner should regard them as poison. How do these various enjoyments...
