Just as one does not drink all the water that is in the mud, so too, noble beings do not even entertain the thought of change, which is the nature of samsara, until they have attained the supreme, immutable bliss. Similarly, it is said in the Root Tantra: "There is no doubt about the bliss born of immutability. Even if the omniscient ones, through ignorance, have no attachment to truth or untruth in their minds, they should not do so." Thus spoke the Bhagavan. Now, he proceeds to explain the distinctions of sentient beings: "The happiness of samsara is impermanent, and those who have not attained it seek it through great delusion." This means that due to the delusion of not distinguishing between good and bad, they seek happiness that is impermanent and cannot be attained. Even if happiness itself becomes special and is naturally attained, it is abandoned by noble beings for the sake of liberation from samsara. To make this clearer: "Even having attained the happiness of kingship, the wise abandon it for the sake of liberation." That is what it means. He clarifies the meaning through examples and meaning: "At the end of the years, in the hundred paths, one seeks the happiness of happiness, eating wild animals." "Eating wild animals" means a lion. At the end of one or two years, it seeks the happiness of desire in a hundred paths. Who seeks it at all times? "The dove that eats ground stone powder always does so." This means that at all times, having eaten stone powder, it seeks only the happiness of desire. What is the difference in happiness that arises from that? "There is no supreme happiness in either." This means that having eaten wild animals, at the end of the year, whoever has done happiness, and having eaten stone powder, whoever has done it at all times, neither of them has the happiness of immutable happiness. Why is that? "Like white falling once and always." This means that Śukra (Sanskrit, Śukra, semen) changes once and always.

Turning away from the enjoyment of the five desirable qualities, whoever possesses that is called an ascetic, meaning one who possesses the vows of a Hearer. One who is called desirous is one who is always attached to desire, which is common to sentient beings. Neither of these two has ultimate happiness. So, does an ascetic have the happiness of attachment? Answer: It is not present in the waking state, but it is not absent in the dream state due to the influence of habit. Just as a desirous person experiences happiness with the two senses in the waking state, so too there is experience in the dream state, that is its meaning. Therefore, both the ascetic and the desirous, in both dream and waking states, there is ejaculation of semen, so there is no unchanging happiness. Now, explaining that there is no difference between the waking and dream states, and also applying the cure of illusion to sleep. As it is said: In sleep, even if fed with illusion, one cannot live without the collection of white essence. This means that, for example, just as what is eaten by illusion in the waking state and what is eaten by illusion in the dream state both die, not just one, because there is no semen. After giving the example, the meaning is explained: Likewise, the ascetic is weakened by the birthplace of a powerless mother, just like that. What is called a powerless mother is a woman, and just as the ascetic who is weakened by her birthplace is like the desirous one who is weakened, so too the ascetic will be weakened, that is its meaning. Similarly, in the practice of ultimate truth, it is said: The poison of sleep and wakefulness is not recognized, for example, the illusory fangs strike the body of a man. Likewise, the wish-fulfilling jewel of Bodhicitta, if that is absent, the illusion of the female organ strikes. Thus it is said. Having thus spoken of the faults of the mind, the virtues are now explained: Just as a garment of asbestos thread is purified by fire when burned. This means that, for example, just as a garment made of asbestos thread, when placed in fire, the fire purifies it but does not burn it, so too, endowed with skillful means.
