Since time bestows upon things, the senses and so forth cannot protect them. Accomplishers, sages, and the lord of gods, immeasurable and countless, lead them to exhaustion. Until the fire of wisdom is seen, who can reverse their own karma? All these are impermanent, not what is desired, but the face of the wisdom-nectar guru is desired. From these two, happiness and suffering greatly arise; if one certainly examines well, what should one take? In the treasury of samsara, there is a wandering nature. As long as one makes offerings to one's own body, giving all the bliss of nirvana, why not make that one the guru? Giving away all the wealth one has accumulated, one takes women who give the fire of hell. He who gives the embrace of the Buddha's excellent limbs, why not offer that excellence to the guru? Teeth and wealth, and pleasing things, and excellent limbs, come from the power of merit. Accumulated for a long time by the power of sins, even if one strives to protect them, they will decay. Therefore, one should offer all wealth to the face of the guru, which is especially excellent and pleasing, which gives happiness in many lifetimes, and which certainly increases greatly when offered to him. The wealth given becomes fruits, like planting seeds on very pure ground. If those are not given well, there is no fruit, like not planting seeds on good ground. Like being foolishly and extremely afflicted for the sake of grain in an unseeded field. Likewise, not offering wealth to the guru, those who desire to hold on wander on the earth. Desiring and craving wealth, for the work of the field, they hold on to dwellings, trade, and skills. Even so, in many times of poverty, they come quickly and dwell on sinners. Apart from afflictions, grain, gold, wives, and those who do much merit become inconceivable. Accomplishers themselves, and the senses, supreme sages, and so forth, give the happiness of an invincible kingdom and the four continents. Whatever little happiness there is in the three realms, all of it comes from the guru's pleasure.

By the power of blessings. (This sentence is a concluding remark, expressing a wish or blessing.) The suffering of hunger, disease, and the fire of hell, Unbearable, these arise from displeasure. The kindness of the Guru can transform desires into attainments, The Tathagatas have spoken of the unsurpassed tantras. Because of displeasure, one enters into hell, This very word exists in that and that tantra. Filled with sacred qualities, knowing the Guru's mind, Those that are the cause of samsara, all should be abandoned. Those beings who lose happiness for countless eons, Suffer in the hells ripened by the Vajra fire. Deceiving the sacred Guru and sins, etc., Not only the disciples suffer there, Likewise, the Guru also falls due to attachment, Entering intensely into the burning flames of desire, etc. The Guru and the disciple will definitely completely fall, Each one's suffering is common to both. Therefore, the Guru and disciple falling here, Should be abandoned far away by one's own wisdom. The claws of the mad Vajra, five-faced, Eight-legged, the face of the wrathful one with fangs, Holding a very wrathful posture is supreme, But the Guru and disciple who have lost the path are not like this. The Guru falling does not necessarily mean the disciple falls, The disciple falling does not necessarily mean the Guru falls. From climbing on the high branches of a tree, Whoever falls, that person will die. From the unsurpassed tantra, the fourteen downfalls, Uproot and steal away the attainments. In immeasurable eons, happiness completely disappears, It is said to the empowered disciples who dwell in bad karma. Making the Guru unhappy is one downfall, Completely abandoning the precepts is the second. Speaking harshly in extreme anger to a sibling is the third, Completely abandoning loving-kindness is the fourth. Abandoning the glorious Bodhicitta is called arrow. Finding fault with the established tenets is the sixth, Saying that one can go to a non-mantrika is mountain. Individually afflicting the skandhas is the eighth. Not believing in the pure Dharma is called planet. Holding loving-kindness with malice is called direction. Thinking conceptually about the sacred Dharma is called fierce. Making pure beings unhappy is called sun. Protecting the vows.
