Regarding the method of making silver, use white spar and sal ammoniac, and when making silver, melt these two substances together with silver. After mixing like this, thoroughly purify the mercury, and among the various smelting tools, the boat-shaped tool is the best, so pour the ore into the boat-shaped tool. Then, take thirty parts of mercury, mix it with lime and mash it, using iron equivalent to sixty parts of the original mercury. Like this, in the boat-shaped tool made of earth, first give sixty parts of food. Then, put a thin cloth on the ore, and on top of it put the previously mentioned lifting mother root, and place the boat on the fire of reeds and cow dung ash. When the coarse material is dry, give the coarse material again without stopping. As long as it does not tremble, it can transform gold into equal amounts very well. Here it is said that if the melted essence is sprinkled on burning coals, if it trembles and does not disappear, then pour the non-trembling substance into a container shaped like a cow's udder until the essence disappears, and then pour castor seed oil on top. Then melt an equal amount of gold essence, and for the purpose of the substance, add eight parts of lead and pour it into the essence. In this way, it can be transformed, and again in the same order, it can be transformed very well with twice the gold, and subsequently transformed with three times the gold. Like this, the three types of transformation will be extracted, in accordance with the power of iron, ultimately reaching a thousand. Then melt copper, make the essence into powder, stir it thoroughly with beeswax, and pour it into it together with the killed lead and brass. In this way, it can penetrate into silver or gold and be extracted, and this is the certainty of melting.
