Having abandoned the assertions of self and sound, as well as the assertions of Isvara and the agent, the Buddhist Sutra tradition arose. Again, upon hearing the teachings of the Transcendent Dharma to the Bodhisattvas, some abandoned their clinging to meaning and relied on the path of perfect and complete enlightenment. The Yogācārins also have an attachment to consciousness, and the thought of those who assert consciousness is that all three realms are merely consciousness. Because it is a part of a whole with six parts, there is no such thing as an atom. Just as in the dream state, even though there is no substance of atoms, one is fully engaged in doing things that are merely appearances of the mind, so too, in the waking state, things that do not exist appear as objects, just as an eye afflicted by the impurity of cataracts sees hairs falling and golden conches. Thus, knowing the thoughts in their minds at the time of questioning reality, the Blessed One said: These three realms are only consciousness; there is no other cycle of existence apart from consciousness. The cessation of worldly consciousness is the cessation of the seed of existence itself; therefore, it is Nirvāṇa. This alone is true: happiness and suffering arise from what is immaterial, but not from what is material. Happiness and suffering are called Saṃsāra, and the absence of them is called Nirvāṇa. Thus, having heard the words of the Blessed One, the Buddhist Yogācārins arose, having completely abandoned the assertions of an agent and a self. Again, upon hearing the teachings of the Transcendent Dharma to the Bodhisattvas, some abandoned the assertion of consciousness and relied on the path of perfect and complete enlightenment. Similarly, in the Yoginī Tantras, it is said: The great illusion mother, the extremely fierce mother, is the one who generates and gathers. Thus, according to the thoughts of sentient beings, the Dharma taught by the Blessed One is not merely a minor sound born from the throat, palate, crown of the head, teeth, and lips of the Blessed One, but...

For me, for the sake of the very language of limitless and boundless sentient beings. If it were with a temporary language, it would be impossible to teach the Dharma to limitless and boundless sentient beings in their own languages simultaneously, even after limitless eons. Therefore, the words of the Blessed One do not change according to the thoughts of sentient beings, nor does the Blessed One become attached according to the thoughts of sentient beings, because attachment to attachment leads to becoming cyclic existence. Therefore, the birth of sentient beings, like a body not born in a dream, transforms into the appearance of the body and speech of the Blessed One due to the power of other habitual tendencies. Just as in a dream, students see a Khenpo and ask about points of doubt, and the Khenpo also dispels the students' doubts, but there is no Khenpo there, it is the appearance of the habitual tendencies of the students' minds. Similarly, for sentient beings endowed with merit, it is the appearance of their own minds, the Blessed One is neither born nor ceases. For this reason, due to the power of the habitual tendencies of the four Buddhist schools, the Blessed One taught those who say there is a person (pudgala) to meditate on the impermanence of the person. To those who say there are things, he taught the meditation on the exhaustion of earth and so on, to those who say there is consciousness, he taught the samadhi of consciousness-only, and to the Madhyamikas, he taught the wisdom that is like a dream, unchanging and non-dual, thus it is the selflessness of the person and the selflessness of phenomena. For the Sarvastivadins, Sautrantikas, and Yogacarins, it is nirvana with remainder. For the Madhyamikas, it is nirvana without remainder, non-abiding, because cause and effect have ceased, so it is like being separated from the state of deep sleep and waking, like a dream and the fourth state. The Blessed One, in the "Praise of Individual Self-Awareness Wisdom," spoke in ten verses as follows: "Liberated from all remainders, well-abiding on the path of space, holding a great wish-fulfilling jewel, is the supreme of all pervasive lords of jewels." Therefore, free from partiality and without leaving any remainder.
