If your tenet obtains the characteristic of being established, then my tenet will also be established; if your tenet obtains the characteristic of being refuted, then my tenet will also be refuted. For example, this fire burns both, not just one. Here, for example, the sound proponents assert that sound is permanent. What is the reason? Because it is not corporeal. What is the example? Like space. Because just as space is permanent because it is not corporeal, so too is sound. Therefore, sound is proven to be permanent, is it? It is said: This is not an assertion, and it will also be said that sound is impermanent. What is the reason? Because it is produced. What is the example? Like a pot. Because just as a pot is made by earth, clay, a wheel, a rope, and the effort of a person, so too is sound produced by the effort of the throat, palate, and so on, therefore sound is proven to be impermanent. Therefore, a mere false reason will not accomplish the result. Whoever speaks in accordance with what is, that is valid cognition, but not from a false reason. Thus, the reason is meaningless. Furthermore, because the object to be proven contradicts the assertion, the reason cannot become the establisher. Here, when the assertion exists, the reason does not exist; when the reason exists, the assertion does not exist. Therefore, whose is this reason without an assertion? Because it is not a coexistent phenomenon. When the letter "pra" exists, the letters "ti" and "jnya" do not exist. Similarly, the letters pa, ra, and a, just like the letter "pra," so too are letters letters. An unborn or dead son cannot perform an action, and so it is with the reason. Therefore, one cannot rely on a cause to become an effect, because it is produced from no cause. Produced from no cause means that cause and agent are not different meanings. Thus, the effect cannot arise from a cause, nor can it arise from no cause. Therefore, the effect is not from itself, not from another, nor from both.

Thus it is established, which is to refute the agent and the constant action. Now, the refutation of the self is stated, such as "if" and so on. Here, the meaning of "if the self goes everywhere, then how will one experience the suffering of separation from relatives" is: if the self goes everywhere and becomes the only happiness, then there will be no suffering of separation from relatives. The suffering of one sentient being will cause all sentient beings to suffer, because I am everywhere. If I am not multiple, then at that time the multiple selves will not go everywhere. If this is constant, then how can there be various states when struck by the arrow of desire? Here, whatever is constant has no other state, because it is separate from change. Therefore, how can these ten states of desire appear here when struck by the arrow of desire? Therefore, it should be understood that I am impermanent, because it is fully in accordance with change. If it is associated with action, then how does it enter into a state of bewilderment when falling asleep? Here, being awake is associated with the action of the characteristic of the state of being awake, and from the word "and", if it is also constant, then how does it enter into a state of bewilderment, separated from action, at the time of sleep? Thus, if one analyzes definitively and thoroughly, then this self will not be all-pervasive, nor will it be the all-pervasive lord, constant, nor will it be associated with action, thus it is established. Now, the teachings of the Buddha Bhagavan are stated, such as "no-self" and so on. Here, the phenomena of dependent origination arise from cessation and cease from arising. Thus, the phenomena of cessation are without self, because there is no attribute of self. The phenomena of arising have arising, because they again grasp arising. These are established by examples such as Katyayana, and should be explained from what will be explained. The meaning of "there are fruits of virtue and non-virtue" is that the phenomena of arising have fruits of virtue and non-virtue. The phenomena of cessation do not have them, therefore the agent is harmed.
