The non-conceptual wisdom of the Tathagata is spoken by the Bhagavan for the sake of attaining perfect and complete Buddhahood. Thought is not existent, because it is the nature of attachment and detachment. Here, when the thought of sentient beings is intensely engaged, at that time, they become attached to highly desirable objects and detached from undesirable objects; these are the causes of samsara. When non-thought is intensely engaged, at that time, there is no attachment to desirable objects, and no detachment from undesirable objects; thus, there is neither attachment nor detachment. Because these do not exist, there is no samsara. Because there is no samsara, one becomes a perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha. Therefore, for the purpose of accomplishing Buddhahood, non-thought is the wisdom of the Tathagata, and not another discriminating samadhi. Thus, some who are extremely unskilled, considering non-thought to be wisdom, will speak of falling into a great annihilation; therefore, it should be spoken. Here, if the consciousness of non-thought bestows Buddhahood, then why have all sentient beings not become Buddhas? For these beings, in deep sleep, the consciousness of non-thought is intensely engaged, there is no attachment to desirable objects, and no detachment from undesirable objects; therefore, in the state of deep sleep, attachment and detachment do not arise, so the consciousness of non-thought does not cause all sentient beings to become perfectly and completely enlightened Buddhas. Therefore, the consciousness of non-thought does not become the wisdom of the Tathagata, because in the chapter on samadhi in the Prajnaparamita, the Bhagavan has spoken of the samadhis, among which is the samadhi called Jewel Lamp. Here, if the Jewel Lamp is without thought or without appearance, then how can it become the samadhi of Jewel Lamp? Likewise, other samadhis cannot become without thought, because they are of the nature of self-awareness and not inert emptiness.

Because it is not self. If these words of children, if it is the self-awareness of the Tathagata's wisdom, then how would the Tathagata say that all dharmas are without self-nature? To this it should be said that here, the Tathagata's wisdom is said to realize the selflessness of all dharmas, not the mind of deep sleep that is characterized by the absence of all things. It is also said in the Prajnaparamita Sutra that whatever mind exists, that mind is not a mind, which means that the mind is naturally luminous. If the Tathagata's wisdom does not become self-aware, then the Tathagata will not teach the Dharma according to the thoughts of sentient beings, because he thoroughly understands and truly knows all dharmas. If it is self-aware through the gate of the senses, then it will not be indivisible, all-pervading, and all-encompassing, because everything is endowed with obscuration. Therefore, the Tathagata's wisdom is self-aware, knowing the nature of all dharmas, non-conceptual and without senses. The Blessed One, in the praise of individual all-knowing wisdom in the 'True Praise of Names,' said in the twentieth verse and three others: 'Peaceful Nirvana is well and happy, having reached the end of Nirvana and peace, eliminating suffering and joy to the end, free from attachment and beyond the body, invincible and without comparison, invisible and not visible, not illuminating, indivisible, all-pervading, subtle, without outflows, without seeds, without dust, without stains, without faults, without defects, the master of perfect awakening, all-knowing, all-seeing, the supreme one.' Similarly, in the 'Praise of Diligent Wisdom,' the thirteenth verse says: 'Self-knowing, other-knowing, all-knowing, the supreme person who benefits all, surpassing all as an example, the supreme lord of knowledge and the knowable.' And in the fifth chapter of the 'King of Tantras,' the ninety-ninth verse also says: 'The vajra body of the Victorious One, not the object of travel for objects and those possessing objects, is all aspects.'
