Through the power of merit and discipline, having confessed sins and so forth, one goes to the place endowed with the blessings of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and obtains purification of oneself, which is the intention of the Buddhas. Whatever root downfall occurs, in order to purify it, one should enter this mandala again, which means that whenever one abides in the seven empowerments or the vase and secret empowerments, if a root downfall occurs, then in order to purify it, this mandala should be drawn, and in order not to do it again, one should enter the mandala again and so on. Then, after obtaining permission, again into the assembly, that is, in the midst of the lineage, the name of the former elder will become small, become young, which is the determination of the Tathagata for the sake of not committing again, and the disciples should not doubt. Now, the root downfalls are spoken of beginning with "Glorious," etc. Here, in all the tantras, there are fourteen root downfalls. How they change separately from these, just as it is said to the sons, that is, the disciples of empowerment, the root downfall "holding the rabbit" becomes the first, that is, starting from "disturbing the mind of the glorious guru," here there are two kinds of gurus, that is, the excellent guru and the non-excellent guru. Disturbing their minds is also of two kinds, that is, for the benefit of others and for the benefit of oneself. Among them, the one whose mind is disturbed for the benefit of others is the glorious guru. The one whose mind is disturbed for the benefit of oneself is the non-excellent guru. Here, if a disciple engages in the ten non-virtuous deeds, he will disturb the mind of the glorious guru, and from disturbing his mind, a root downfall will result. The guru who acts for his own benefit does not come from engaging in the ten non-virtuous deeds, this is certain. Disobeying his words becomes the second root downfall, because he commits the ten non-virtuous deeds behind the guru's back. Similarly, getting angry with a vajra brother becomes the third root downfall, that is, whenever one becomes extremely angry with a vajra brother, whether elder or younger, who possesses the precepts. Abandoning loving-kindness becomes the fourth root downfall.

Here, abandoning loving-kindness has four aspects, which are distinguished by small, medium, large, and extremely large. Among them, small refers to abandoning loving-kindness for only a moment and then reverting, like drawing a line on water. Medium refers to a mark on sand being smoothed out by the wind again. Large is like cracked earth being filled in again by summer rain. Similarly, the extremely large nature of a mind without loving-kindness is complete maturation, for example, different stones can never be completely integrated into one, or like a ripe fruit not remaining on the tree, completely abandoning loving-kindness towards sentient beings, which will definitely become the fourth root downfall. The so-called "arrow" refers to the fifth, which is the complete degeneration of bodhicitta, here bodhicitta refers to semen (ཁུ་བ།), which, when degenerated, will not turn into unchanging bliss. Therefore, those who do not possess suchness and yet desire Buddhahood through the pleasure of the two organs will commit the fifth root downfall. The sixth is slandering tenets, which refers to the suchness chapter of the Prajñāpāramitā and the tantric path. Whoever slanders these is the sixth. The so-called "mountain" refers to the seventh, which is giving secret initiation to those who are not mature and are on the path of the Śrāvakas, that is, giving great bliss, which is a downfall for the teachers. The so-called "skandhas, afflictions, nāga" refers to the eighth, which is arranging displays etc. for the skandhas and afflictions etc. that are in a state of illness, or performing acts such as cutting off limbs, which will become the eighth. Again, the ninth is the pure dharma, which is not believing in the dharma of emptiness. False loving-kindness is speaking one thing from the mouth and thinking another in the heart, this false loving-kindness is the so-called "direction", which is the tenth. The bliss of being free from names etc., the so-called "severance", is discriminating thought on the suchness nature of the Tathāgatagarbha, this is the so-called "fierce", which is the eleventh. Speaking badly of pure beings, that is, yogis, will become the so-called "sun", which is the twelfth. One who has obtained vows in the assembly wheel
