The Second Differentiation of the Second Examination. Revealing the Inconceivable Profound Perfection Stage. Having thus revealed the empowerment of wisdom-jnana, now the fourth empowerment will be explained, namely, "Engaged in benefiting others, possessing diligence." This means that the teacher intends emptiness of mind. For the sake of benefiting the practitioner, it means wanting to obtain the fourth disciple. "Meditating on the meaning of wisdom and means" means that wisdom is the Dharmadhatu. Means is meditating on emptiness, self-awareness, and direct perception. Meditation means being established in direct perception. Having thus briefly shown it, now it will be explained in detail, namely, "Whoever meditates does not dwell in the difficult-to-cross ocean of samsara, the yogi is only for self-benefit, having meditated, he transcends sorrow." This refers to the Shravaka who meditates on the selflessness of the person, does not dwell in the ocean of samsara, the Hinayana yogi, only meditates on self-benefit, and obtains Nirvana with remainder. The Bodhisattva yogi, with wisdom does not abide in existence, with compassion does not abide in peace. What is it like? It is called "Whoever reaches the ultimate end, becomes a vessel of the immaculate Buddha," which refers to the eleventh ground reaching the ultimate end.

Being free from the defilements of the two kinds of obscurations, one becomes a wondrous Buddha with the single taste of emptiness like an illusion. Why is it said to be wondrous? Because the antidote increases and one is completely liberated from the obscurations of afflictions. So, how does one become a Buddha? In the realm of illusion, it is said that unsurpassed Bodhi arises. Thus, it is shown to be free from dwelling in samsara and nirvana, as well as from increase and decrease. And it is shown to be free from antidotes and what is to be abandoned. Therefore, it is said: The five aggregates and so on, and the three vehicles should not be abandoned. That is to say, one should not abandon the impure five aggregates and so on, nor should one abandon the three vehicles that are their antidotes. Why? Because it is said that the Dharmadhatu is equal. Equality refers to the antidote being pure, and inequality refers to the aggregates and so on being pure. Both of these are of one taste in the Dharmadhatu. And what is that like? It is said to be like water and a tree, because there is neither purity nor impurity. How should it be grasped? It should be grasped in one's own mind in this way. Having thus shown the equality of what is to be abandoned and the antidote, now, in order to show the equality of emptiness and non-emptiness, one should not meditate solely on emptiness. Nor should one meditate solely on non-empty objects. This shows the equality of acceptance and rejection, that is, one should not abandon emptiness, because there is no subject, so one should not abandon merely the nature of phenomena. Then, is non-emptiness abandoned? The non-empty nature of objects is also abandoned. If one grasps emptiness and non-emptiness as acceptance and rejection, what fault will occur? It is said: Extraordinary conceptualizations arise. That is to say, many conceptualizations such as permanence and annihilation will arise. If, like the Middle Way, one does not abide at all, what fault is there in abandoning both of these? It is said to abandon and so on. Therefore, one should abandon both of these. It is said that one should abandon both acceptance and rejection. What is its result? It is the complete abandonment of the two kinds of grasping, it is the place of complete purification and liberation. That is to say, it is the place of liberation of the emptiness of luminosity where the two obscurations are completely purified. That is liberation from the extremes of purity and impurity.
