For what reason is it abandoning the two extremes? The two, such as existence and non-existence, are abandoned, and it is blocked on 'Phor', meaning 'not existent'. If so, isn't the Mind-Only that is separated from the two and has become the Middle Way also taught in various sutras? No, because in conventional truth, the Bhagavan taught it as Mind-Only, but in ultimate truth, it is not existent. In other sutras, it is also established that it is without inherent existence. As it is said in the Noble Heap of Jewels: 'Kaundinya, if the mind is completely sought, it cannot be found. What is not found is not perceived. What is not perceived is not past, not future, not present. It has completely transcended the three times. It is not existent, not non-existent. What is not existent and not non-existent is unborn. What is unborn has no inherent existence. What has no inherent existence has no birth. What has no birth has no cessation. What has no cessation has no separation, and separation has no going, no coming, no dying, no birth. What has no going, no coming, no dying, no birth has no formation whatsoever. What has no formation whatsoever is unconditioned. What is unconditioned is the lineage of the noble ones.' Thus it is extensively taught. Therefore, what is said here: 'Kaundinya, 'permanent' is one extreme. 'Impermanent' is the second extreme. Kaundinya, similarly, 'existent' is one extreme. 'Non-existent' is the second extreme. What is in the middle of these extremes is unthinkable, unteachable, not abiding, unpermitted, not discriminating consciousness, without a place. This should be spoken of as the Middle Way, which is the

Therefore, there is no appearance. Since the realms of eye consciousness and so forth transcend their own nature, they are not consciousness. Since they are not the abode of all defilements such as desire, they are said to be without abode. If there were a truly existent thing in the middle that possessed the nature of one's own mind, then, when it exists, does it exist? When it does not exist, does it not exist? Or is it permanent? Or is it impermanent? If one clings to this, what will it ultimately become? As long as one follows the reality of things, proper attention is only a place of falling, which is unreasonable. Apart from the nature of examination and so forth, what other form of things would become the reality of things? If there is no self-nature of things in the middle, then would clinging to meaninglessness also become an extreme view? This is unreasonable, because the definite clinging to non-existence will not arise if there is no clinging to existence, because the negation without an object is non-existent. It is also said in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Dragon King Ocean: The prior extreme is empty, the posterior extreme is empty, the things that arise, cease, and abide are empty, in this, things are neither existent nor non-existent, all dharmas are empty of self-nature. The Noble Nagarjuna also said: To say 'exists' is to cling to permanence, to say 'does not exist' is to view as annihilation, therefore the wise should not abide in existence or non-existence. Regarding clinging to the Middle Way, Aryadeva also said: Liberated from existence and non-existence, whoever thinks in the Middle Way, this clinging to the Middle Way is not the nature of illusion. Therefore, this is the ultimate profound reality, not to be examined, because there is no generality, so it is not to be realized by realization. It is not consciousness, because there is no difference, so it is not an object of speculation. Because apart from generality and difference, there cannot exist a self-nature that can be realized, so it is difficult to realize. Or, because it is not an object that can be understood by the nature of hearing, thinking, and meditation, so in order are these three words. It is the logicians, that is, the conceptualization of generality and so forth.

Those who are fond of the lotus, the lion, the plunderer, the essence of the goblin, and the detachment from external desires, etc., are known by individual ordinary beings. Therefore, because it is not their realm of practice, it is extremely secret. It is equal to the sky, equal in that it is without inherent nature. The Buddhas, the Bhagavad-bhagavats, are the same as them and only them, becoming one taste, having abandoned all obscurations, and from the perspective of what each of the Buddhas can realize for themselves, this is how it is understood. What is said is the realm of practice of the Buddhas. Moreover, with the transcendental wisdom that is free from all nets of conceptualization, all phenomena are without appearance, not something that can be taken as an object by each individual, not from the perspective of the object of knowledge. As it is said in the Sutra "The Definitive Exposition of the Two Truths": "Son of the gods, the ultimate truth is beyond the realm of the supreme all-knowing wisdom that possesses all excellent aspects." By this, since it has taken the reality of being far removed from the object, from the perspective of taking the object closely, it will hinder seeing it. Ignorance is the obscuration of what is to be known, and it alone obscures seeing that suchness, so it is like darkness, it is darkness. Solitary Buddhas, with the wisdom generated by transformation and cultivation, even if they have abandoned a part of the obscuration of what is to be known, however, if they follow the habitual tendencies, therefore they also do not know. This says that only non-dual wisdom, which is the nature of divine yoga, is the path to enlightenment. Whose attachment is being spoken of? Samsara, etc., samsara is the stream of birth thrown by afflictions and karma in the three realms. It alone is separated from friendliness, encounters with unfriendliness, etc., is the cause of many near harms, surrounded by afflictive crocodiles, etc., and because it is vast and difficult to overcome, it is the ocean. Therefore, it is terror, it is what causes someone to obtain great terror. Deliverance is transcendence. The mind that has reached the other shore, that is, what is desired by those who have an excellent lineage.
