It is also so. The furnace of wisdom will be held. Because of mistakenly believing that external things such as feces are truly existent, and clinging to the appearance of this-not-that, so that unclean things are equated with reality, those who are blinded by these cannot understand the truth of things. They create sins by universally enjoying unclean things, and realize merit and wisdom by approaching clean things. Therefore, one should only focus on the completely pure nature and uphold the vows accordingly. Therefore, in order to eliminate illusions, the means of manifesting true wisdom, the Dharmadhatu, which is naturally pure, is taught. For example, the word "self" and so on. Self-nature is uncreated, and ultimately, self-nature is non-self-nature. Therefore, pure things are not the essence of unclean things and so on. All dharmas are those that hold their own characteristics, such as feces and so on. Because the unborn dharmas, that is, the dharmas that are free from birth and death, it is obvious that non-self-nature should be proven. As has been elaborated in the Madhyamaka-stalk treatise. "Because there is no place, those who have no place." That is, it is not the basis of unclean things and so on. This reasoning can enhance the understanding of suchness and is a supreme means. Through meditation, illusion will disappear by abiding in the unique non-dual wisdom for a long time. It is not possible to do this merely by arising in a very short time in any case. If so, if there is no sin, how can good deeds change as one wishes, and there is no evil destiny? If there is no merit, then there is no good destiny, so what is there to talk about liberation? Furthermore, if there is no karma, because there is no birth, then there will be constant liberation, or never liberation. "If there is no bondage, how can there be liberation?" Therefore, some people suspect that this is a complete denial of everything, so they said "merit" and so on. Supreme means unsurpassed, and should be strived for, this is its meaning. Or, it is the realm of the essence of supreme wisdom. Or, the meaning of supreme, that is, what is to be realized by the wisdom of the path, the meaning of supreme is the Buddha himself. There, the essence of the stage of merit as a cause should be abandoned, merit and

It is also because the conceptualizations, along with their habitual tendencies, have been abandoned. The non-conceptualization of merit in the state of fruition is merely existent, because the vajra-like bodhicitta is the very nature of all merit. Sin is not, because even in the state of ordinary beings, it is not universally practiced, so it is impossible. On the level of ordinary beings, it is extremely profound. Therefore, it is said, "Who holds," and so forth. The meaning is this: if everyone examines with certainty, even the five aggregates are without inherent existence in the ultimate sense. However, conventional truths are merely existent. Therefore, the sins and merits contained within the aggregate of formation are merely existent in name. Among these, sin is the ten non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind, including both naturally negative actions and those that are negative according to circumstances. Merit is the nature of generosity and so forth. These merits and non-merits are also said to increase with the adornment of the Sugata's intention. Among these, non-merit is that which has undesirable ripening, therefore it should be abandoned. Merit is the cause of liberation from the river of good destinies and samsara, therefore it should be accepted. This alone is made understandable by example, such as "to the other shore," and so forth. "Having crossed over" means having crossed over the river. "Having abandoned" means the boat. Similarly, dharma, which is merit, is what should be accepted; non-dharma, which is sin, is what should be abandoned. "Relying on" means abiding especially with wisdom, crossing over from samsara, from the other shore of samsara, generating the mind of the uninterrupted path to the vajra-holder's ground. Immediately after that, enlightenment, Buddhahood itself, is realized. So, since even conventional sin should be completely abandoned, should conventional impure conduct also be abandoned? Having doubted in this way, the answer is given by summarizing the meaning, "Therefore," and so forth. The net of conceptualization is "the truly existent existence of ultimate truth," and so forth. The profundity of all dharmas is profundity itself, which is suchness. To this it is said, "Emptiness is the profoundness of dharma, other qualities are vast."
