The Second Chapter. A detailed explanation of the first chapter. Now, starting from the second chapter's exposition on the empowerment of Bodhicitta, for the benefit of sentient beings, to reveal the ritual of its mandala, it is said, "From then on," and so forth. "From then on" refers to the beginning of all tantras, after the Great Secret, that is, at the end of its exposition. "To be truly explained" means that the teaching of the true Dharma should be explained. "To the practitioners" means to the sentient beings who appear now. "For the sake of benefit" refers to the Dharma that is the nature of cause and effect, which is not the same as the Dharma of not conforming to others, and so on. Therefore, this means "for what reason." The wisdom of empowering disciples: here, empowerment is of two kinds, worldly and transcendental. Among them, the worldly is the exhalation of the Tathagata, which is also of ten kinds. That which is transcendental is the exhalation of Vajradhara, namely, secret, wisdom, prajna, and supreme. Thus, the exhalation of the Tathagata accumulates the accumulation of merit and makes one a vessel of the sacred Dharma. Similarly, the exhalation of Vajradhara, by the power of the accumulation of wisdom, will attain Buddhahood itself. Thus, the nature of outer and inner is being explained for the sake of cause and effect. "By what" refers to the ritual of the mandala. That ritual also, the word "also" indicates the ritual of empowerment. "Should be shown" means should be explained. Initially, gods, etc., refers to after the disciple has requested here. Thus, at the very beginning, the master and disciples examine each other well, not relying on themselves, striving to accomplish the meaning of self and others, and to the disciple who possesses these qualities, the master should also manifest compassion. Then, when all the necessary items have been obtained, the teacher goes to the site of the mandala, makes offerings with fragrant flowers, etc., and performs burnt offerings. Again, the master should manifest the yoga of the deity he desires, and at that time place the vase, etc.

Before sowing seeds and the like, the earth goddess should be especially established. One should pray to her, offer flowers and other offerings, and ask for forgiveness, then mentally invite her to ascend into the sky. After that, one should dig about a cubit deep. After removing bones and other debris, dig about an elbow's height, fill it with water, and observe. Walk a hundred steps and return to observe. If there is no slight change, then it should be chosen. If there is a slight change, then it should be discarded. Why? Because many faults will be committed. Again, whenever there are no these faults, then the land itself should be filled with soil. If there is excess soil, then the siddhi (accomplishment) of the mantra will be achieved. If there is less, then there will be no siddhi. If it is equal, then it will become peaceful. Similarly, the guru should focus on samadhi, perform mantra recitation and other rituals, and make offerings, placing vases and the like. Then, invite the earth goddess and make offerings to her. Reciting "Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,Hūṃ,seed syllable) transforms into a blazing vajra," one should visualize the earth goddess dissolving into that mandala's location. At that time, the syllable Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,Hūṃ,seed syllable) completely transforms into various vajras. Therefore, one should act according to its nature, this is his thought. At that time, abundant torma should be given to the directional guardians. Again, the guru should arrange protective wheels and the like in the form of three samadhis. After that, the practitioner should draw a mandala as large as he desires. The location itself, such as the saying "garden," is easy to understand. "Empty" means "cemetery." Again, regarding the meaning of faults, here the basis of all dharmas is ignorance. From this, the five skandhas will arise. Therefore, it is diverse. Therefore, the yogi should purify his own body, and the beginner should meditate on the deity with form. Therefore, the single-pointed mind indicated by the symbol of Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,Hūṃ,seed syllable) means that the mind-vajra being transforms into non-dual wisdom-vajra. At that time, one should meditate on the five-five mandalas of the ten breaths and the like in the left and right nostrils.
