First, one should meditate on loving-kindness. In the second instant, one should meditate on compassion, which is to contemplate that they themselves are free from all suffering. The third is joy, which is to contemplate that they themselves have obtained happiness and will never be separated from samsara. Finally, there is equanimity, which is to contemplate that they themselves, in order to exhaust all non-virtuous aspects such as afflictions, initiate all virtuous aspects of the mundane and supramundane. Thus, these four immeasurables should be meditated upon. Why? In order to stabilize all roots of virtue such as bodhicitta, and in order not to discriminate between enemies and friends, and in order to protect oneself from the suffering of the lower realms, obstacles, and the lower vehicle, these are the first branch of yogis, which is common to all yogis. The body of the first yoga is the four vajras, as it is said, "From then on," and so on. "From then on again" means that from then on one should meditate again. As for what to meditate on, it is said, "The emptiness of bodhi," and so on. The nature of mere consciousness, which is the various appearances, is emptiness itself, where there is no duality of grasper and grasped. Its bodhi is the non-erroneous appearance, and that emptiness of bodhi should be meditated upon. How should one meditate? In this, there is nothing whatsoever that can be examined as grasper and grasped. It is not uniquely existent, but from non-duality it appears as duality. With the delusion of one's own mind, various appearances arise, and one thinks of them as like dreams and so on. With the various appearances of one's own mind, one dispels the signs of delusion, and like a clear crystal, one sees only luminosity, boundless and non-dual. "The second is the gathering of the seed," which means that one gathers one's own boundless mind, non-dually, into the heart, and contemplates it as being like the disc of the rising sun. On top of that, one contemplates the seed syllable Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུཾ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: 吽), with a garland of blazing light, and from that seed, one contemplates the arising of Vajra Mother and Gauri and so on, immeasurably.

Making the ground joyful and gathering them all into the seed itself is gathering the seed, which is to be practiced. The third is the perfection of the image. It means that with the seed itself, the body of the joyful Vajra resides in the heart of the great lotus of one's own body, in the center of the throat, above the sun, with a halo of sunlight, practice the perfection of the body, that is its meaning. The fourth is to establish the syllable. It means that from then on, visualize the sun disc in one's own heart. Establish the seed syllable on it, and from the seed syllable residing in the sun in the heart, perfected by the self-nature of the mind in the form of one's own deity, one should practice one's own mind, that is its meaning. Here also, it is distinguished by words such as "second." This is spoken in terms of the second yoga. The words "ra las" and so on are also like that. Here, to perfect the ultimate branch of emptiness bodhi, it is the same as before. In particular, as spoken in the two verses such as "ra las," practicing love and so on is the first protection. Emptiness bodhi is the second protection. In the third protection, the meaning of the verses such as "las" is to visualize the sun disc of ra las with the color of fire in front. In its center, visualize various vajras, and below it, from the subtle vajra, the rays spread in four directions, one should practice a very dense scene. The rays that spread upwards form a net on top of the fence. The rays that spread again from those rays bind the boundaries. And the meaning of "again" is that the rays that spread downwards reach the end of the bottom with the nature of vajra. The sun and various vajras become downwards, universally filled, so all of this must be made stable. Then thinking about what to do, so it says "first," meaning before the body of the yogi. Practicing ro means that in the center of the four fences, on the ground of the nature of vajra, visualize the eight-petaled lotus growing upwards, very vast, that is the meaning of practicing ro. Because here it is to be used as the seat of the Bhagavan, so it says "dharma."
