Not harming others is called discipline. Living in places where dogs sleep, roads trampled by many cattle, and places inhabited by wild animals, and so on. Furthermore, sleeping on ashes, shaving hair, going to bathe in places where sages have bathed, eating fruits and deep roots, keeping matted hair, wearing bark, and so on are called asceticism. Acting in this way is called highly valuing discipline and asceticism. Doubting truth and jewels is called doubt. Attachment to the three realms is called desire. Generating hatred towards sentient or non-sentient beings is called hatred. Pride is the characteristic of an arrogant mind. It has seven types: pride, great pride, pride above pride, the pride of 'I am,' slight pride, and wrong pride. Great pride refers to being superior in lineage, having a beautiful appearance, being wealthy, learned, and being more excellent than others, hence it is called great pride. Pride above pride refers to the pride of thinking oneself superior to those who are equal to the aforementioned. The pride of 'I am' refers to the pride of thinking oneself superior in appearance, learning, wealth, and discipline, even though the lineage is the same. Manifest pride refers to the arrogance of saying, "This person has a view of self, but I do not," or "I know the Dharma that transcends the world, but this person does not." Slight pride refers to the arrogance of thinking oneself slightly inferior in lineage and so on. Wrong pride refers to the arrogance of saying that one has qualities when one does not. Ignorance is so called because it obscures wisdom. Alternatively, not understanding the truth of suffering, etc., is called ignorance. These afflictions are called that which separates sentient beings from samsara. Or, because the nature of body, speech, and mind afflicts them, they are called afflictions. Next is the practice of yoga.

Ya Ba said. Now, I will explain the Bodhi of the Yogacara school. In order to explain it, what is it that grasps forms and other objects as truly external? It is the Tathagata who grasps what is taught according to his intention as truly existent. That which is examined as one or many is not truly existent. If that is not truly existent, then what are the definite characteristics of place and time, etc.? The answer to that is that due to the power of the habits of inverted discrimination since beginningless time, consciousness is grasped as external. The meaning of that is spoken by the Tathagata. How is it spoken? In the Noble Avatamsaka Sutra, it is said: 'O sons of the Victorious Ones, these three realms are only mind.' Therefore, by meditating on mind-only, one will attain Bodhi. Consciousness is the nature of consciousness, therefore it is called truth. The appearance of external objects is not the nature of consciousness, therefore it is called falsehood. Since external truth is not true, the five aggregates, which are the nature of suffering and origin, are also not true. The afflictions that produce them are also not true. Knowing this, one will be separated from the obscuration of afflictions. Since forms and so on are not truly existent, they are not to be grasped. Knowing this, one will be separated from the obscuration of knowledge. Being separated from these two is called the Tathagata. This explains the Bodhi of the Yogacara school. The Bodhi of the Madhyamaka school is to be explained, and after that, the Madhyamaka is to be explained. Thus it is said. Regarding this, above it was said that consciousness is the nature of consciousness, therefore it is called truth. Is that something that exists, or is it something that does not exist? Is it the nature of existence? Does it exist as one, or does it exist as the nature of many? If it exists as the nature of one, then there is this fault: for example, why do drawings and so on become different? Because they appear as different, they are not one. If it is one, then the appearance of drawings and so on as different would be false. Why is it false? Because it appears as diverse. The appearance as diverse is also due to diverse causes. Regarding this, the characteristic of one
