In order to perfect the perfection of giving, therefore, with joy and horripilation, for that reason, you also gave your own flesh. This is an extensive explanation. You also gave your own flesh, what need is there to mention other things? You, who do good deeds, even gave your life to those who begged. Thus, with the power of love, the Bhagavan who became a Bodhisattva, with a sword as sharp as a blue lotus, cut his own flesh, cutting and cutting, and gave it for the yakshas to eat. The Bodhisattva Jewel Crest also gave to the rakshasas, which is the telling of realization. Other things refers to jewels, gold, silver, and so on. What need to mention means what need to mention that, because it can be understood through meaning, so the giving of other things will also be realized, this is his intention. So, was it only his own flesh that was given? No, it is said, life also, this is an extensive explanation. Life, also with lives. Giving means having become an offering. Those who beg are those who come desiring gain. For example, the Bhagavan who became a rabbit, in order for Indra, who came in the form of a beggar with the intention of subduing, to enjoy, placed himself on a pile of fire, this is a Jataka story. You are a doer of good deeds without being asked. Based on what was said, doer of good deeds is an address to the Bhagavan. Thus, after explaining the giving for the enjoyment of beings, the giving of complete protection will be explained, that is: with your body and lives, for sentient beings seized by the executioner, you redeemed their bodies and lives hundreds of times. Speaking of your body, your refers to your own. Body refers to parts gathered together, closely attached, so the part of the body is called body. Lives refers to taking the word of the entire body. What did that body do? Redeemed many times. Thus it is said. Redeem means to buy. Hundreds of times means the meaning of many times. What was redeemed?

Explanation: Redemption means that if one abandons attachment to self, then by the power of compassion, because others are attached to self, the giver redeems parts of their bodies. Whose bodies are those bodies? It is explained that they are the bodies of sentient beings, meaning the bodies of living beings. How does it happen? It is explained: Those seized by executioners, meaning those executioners who strive to kill. Seized means those seized by those executioners. For example, the Blessed One, having become the glorious king, proclaimed himself to be of the nature of complete giving, and having cut off half of his body for Indra, who held the guise of a Brahmin, completely gave it away, which is a Jataka tale. Is it only the body that is redeemed? No, it is explained: With lives, etc., it is said. Life means with one's own lives, etc. With life, sentient beings seized by executioners, Homage! Body and life, you have, Redeemed hundreds and thousands of times. Thus it is said, apply it to everything in this way. When, oppressed by the suffering of hunger, they strive to eat their own children, The Bodhisattva, having become a tigress, seeing this, gave herself to it, and redeemed the tiger cubs with her own life. Also, having become King Peaceful, Indra, having taken the form of a hawk, seeing the dove cherished by the king, in order to liberate it, cut his own flesh with a sword, cutting and cutting, and completely gave it away, until he had straightened and weighed his entire body, and thus redeemed that dove, it is said. Similarly, other Jataka tales of Bodhisattvas who previously performed joyful deeds should also be told as examples. In this way, having praised the Perfection of Giving of the Blessed One with two verses, again, Not for the sake of fearing evil destinies, And so on, the extensive explanation is a praise of the Perfection of Discipline, and now it will be explained: Not for the sake of fearing evil destinies, Nor for the sake of accomplishing desired results, Only with pure intention, You have practiced discipline. Among them, hell, animals, and hungry ghosts are evil destinies, because their ripening is unpleasant. It is only fear of that, because it is said to be fear of that, that one fears evil destinies.
