They are fierce and cruel. Why? Because they eat human flesh and fat and enjoy them. Who are those mothers? They are Brahma's mother, the fierce mother, the pervading mother, the young mother, the powerful mother, Kuberi, the pig mother, and Camundi, these eight are called mothers. The heretic is the lord of obstacles, that is, the lord of hosts. He is very fond of alcohol and craves it. These words have been said before. The one with the ten powers is the Buddha, who does not have even a small part of the great faults of the great gods, etc., or none at all. Because he has abandoned all defilements, including habitual tendencies, he has no faults at all, that is the meaning. If you say, "You speak like that because you are biased," therefore, it is said, "The Bhagavan is," and so on. The Buddha Bhagavan is not my relative or kin, and the other great gods, etc., are not my enemies. Similarly, from the great god to the one with the ten powers, although I have not directly seen their actions, from the differences in their words and actions that I have heard separately, I rely on and take refuge in the Buddha Bhagavan, and abandon others. Why? Because the Buddha has perfect qualities, therefore I have faith and joy in him, and for this reason, I rely on and abide in his teachings. In order to clarify the object that was started in this way, it is said, "Sugata," and so on. Here, the Sugata is not my opponent, and the heretics who have entered other paths, such as the remnant eaters, etc., are not enemies. Similarly, the Tathagata did not give me wealth, nor did he accomplish it with words, and the remnant eaters and foot-eyed ones did not rob me of any wealth. Among them, the remnant eater refers to one who eats leftovers and practices asceticism, thereby attaining the accomplishment of asceticism. Therefore, the remnant eater has composed the treatises of the heretical Brahmins, and the sage Foot-eye has

composed the treatise on "Right Reasoning." That is, the sage called "Foot-Eye" was arranged by the Great God to protect Uma. Because he was extremely handsome, Uma became attached to him. He sat upright in front, showing signs of attachment, and he turned his eyes elsewhere. He remained there, and he turned his eyes away from there, until he established two foot-eyes. Having heard that rumor, the Great God was pleased and blessed him, making him the teacher who composed the treatise on "Right Reasoning." The word "etc." refers to the sage Kapila and so on. If so, why do you abide in a biased sect? To address this conjecture, he said "However," and so on. Like that, even if not enemies and friends, the Buddha Bhagavan, because he possesses perfect wisdom, is a Buddha; because he has abandoned the subtle aspects of afflictions along with their habitual tendencies, he is a Bhagavan; because he possesses great compassion that accomplishes the benefit of sentient beings, he solely accomplishes the benefit of beings. Like that, because he possesses three qualities, the teachings of the Buddha Bhagavan are immaculate, the ultimate conclusion free from all faults. Similarly, it also removes all stains, because it possesses the nature of removing and destroying all afflictive stains, so it is precisely this teaching that, merely by hearing it, can remove all the latent tendencies of afflictions. To this, what I believe is that I have faith and joy in the teachings of the King of Sages. In order to clarify that I have joy and faith in the Sugata, he said "Whoever," and so on. To this, "constantly" means always. "Benefit" means benefiting others, because he possesses the nature of delighting and desiring this, it is in order to obtain the excellence that transcends the world. Similarly, constantly, always, he also benefits beings as they are with the excellence of worldly happiness. For the suffering driven by afflictions, what should be done to pacify it, the Bhagavan does. Then, to whom does he do it? To which being

He who makes happy those who are afflicted and tormented by many kinds of sufferings, and likewise, whatever teacher knows all the knowable objects of the three times, whether conditioned or unconditioned, as clearly as an object placed in the palm of his hand, it is proper to have faith in him. I have also come to have faith in the incomparable sage who has the nature of always delighting in benefiting others, and who has no equal in the three realms. Wise people with faith should not rely on the wrong path. Because he possesses the qualities of delighting in benefiting others, etc., it is said "from the heart" etc. to show that the Bhagavan is a great field of merit. Although one has perfect thoughts such as faith and respect, but because there is no action, it is said, "Do you believe from the heart?" Even if there is no constant action, how is it pleasing to make offerings to him? It means, how is it pleasing to start acting after about ten years or about twenty years, or to start acting for no reason? Or, if one has the conditions, one does it, and if one does not have the conditions, one does not do it.
