Just as it dispels the darkness of the world, for oneself, attaining the ultimate Dharmakaya, and for others, attaining the conventional Rupakaya, the mandala of these two is complete, free from all extremes of elaboration, and in the sky where the essence of enlightenment is manifestly attained, the sun of the all-knowing Dharma King also radiates various sacred lights of the Dharma with the wisdom of knowledge to all beings to be tamed, thereby dispelling the darkness of ignorance. So it is said. The way of benefiting others by appearing simultaneously is: for example, just as the image of the sun appears simultaneously in many vessels filled with water and oil. Because the infinite continuum of beings to be tamed is completely purified of the defilements of afflictions and so on, therefore, like vessels filled with water and oil, the Rupakaya of the Sugata is like the image of the sun to all, and countless manifestations appear simultaneously, thereby perfectly benefiting others. So it is said. There are two ways of appearing gradually, of which, the teaching is: at all times, the Dharmadhatu, which pervades all things with Dharma, is indistinguishable and extremely pure, like the sky itself. The perfect Buddhas, like the great sun, rise from there, and then gradually descend and appear according to the capacity and wishes of the beings to be tamed, who are like mountains. So it is said. The explanation is: just as the sun, with its vast rays of light, rises in the sky and illuminates the worlds of the four continents with its rays, and then gradually, first shines on the highest mountain peaks, then on the middle mountains, and finally on the low mountains. The sun of the all-knowing conquerors, with its vast rays of wisdom, appears in the Dharmadhatu sky, and also gradually shines on the beings to be tamed, first shining on those with the best capacity, then on those with the middle capacity, and finally on those with the lowest capacity, thereby completely maturing others. So it is said. There are two ways of being superior, of which, the way of being superior with light is: compared to the ordinary sun, the Buddha.

The sun is the most supreme! As the Teacher said. The sun has the power to radiate light that illuminates only one direction, but the Buddha has the power to radiate the light of wisdom throughout the entire expanse of the sky in all realms. The sun does not have this power, but the Buddha does, and therefore, it is particularly superior because of its pervasiveness. Similarly, the sun has the power to dispel ordinary darkness and reveal only a portion of forms, but it does not have the power to dispel the darkness of ignorance and delusion, thereby clearly revealing the essence of knowledge. However, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, the embodiment of great compassion, like the sun, dispels the darkness of ignorance with the radiant light of countless scriptures, variegated with various colors such as the Three Vehicles. This enables the Buddha to clearly reveal the suchness and allness of knowledge, as well as profound truths, to limitless sentient beings (175). Therefore, the Buddha is particularly superior because of possessing great significance. This is what was said. Regarding the way in which it is superior in terms of activity: Even when the ordinary sun rises in the world, it does not have the power to enable the blind to see forms, to eliminate the suffering of samsara, or to enable one to see the profound nature of reality, and so on. But when the sun of the Buddha descends and shines in the city of those to be tamed, blind beings who do not have eyes will gain eyes and be able to see forms. Similarly, the deaf will be able to hear sounds, the insane will regain their sanity, the poor will find treasures in their homes, and those who are tormented by the desire for meaningless things such as the lower realms will be freed from that and, merely by seeing the Buddha's form, will experience the happiness they desire. In short, because the darkness of delusion obscures the eye of wisdom, beings blindly fall into the great ocean of samsara, endlessly deep in suffering. The thick darkness of various wrong views obscures the nature of the mind, and for these limitless beings, the light of the Buddha's sun, rising in the world, gradually illuminates the light of wisdom, gradually clarifying knowledge.
