Because of being unshakeable, the enlightened activity of the Tathagata, the perfectly complete Buddha, is constantly and spontaneously accomplished and practiced. For the sake of the realms of sentient beings with various thoughts, according to their respective inclinations, offering the many methods of taming with the Three Vehicles, etc., is also spontaneously accomplished and practiced. Furthermore, temporarily establishing them in higher realms and ultimately establishing them in definite goodness, like this, whatever activities of taming (147) are also spontaneously accomplished and practiced. Wherever, in whatever country, at whatever time, that is, in the country where the beings to be tamed are, and when the time for taming has come, going to those places, there is no effort of conceptualization, but it is spontaneously accomplished and practiced. Thus it is said. The meaning of non-interruption has five aspects: the explanation of the differences in names, the explanation of the nature of the meaning, the way of representing them with examples, the extensive explanation of the meaning of the examples, and the way of summarizing and not interrupting. Among them, the difference in names is: the Buddhas' activities of benefiting sentient beings are uninterrupted, because for the cause of the definite arising of activity, and the condition that closely shows it, and the way the result is accomplished from those causes and conditions, and the complete holding of the realm where the activity of that result is practiced, and the removal of the obscurations of those realms, and the conditions that cause the removal of those obscurations, there is no conceptualization and they are practiced by their own nature. Thus it is said. The nature of the meaning is: what are those six reasons? The cause of definitely arising in the ultimate state is the gradual practice of the ten Bodhisattva grounds, the two accumulations of merit and wisdom are the cause of showing the special qualities of those ten grounds increasing from higher to higher, and because of the completeness of such a cause, the activity of the Buddha is uninterrupted, and the ultimate result of those is the attainment of the supreme great Bodhi, the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment (148), therefore the activity of the Buddha is uninterrupted, and after attaining Bodhi, also because of seeing all sentient beings as having the essence of the Tathagata and completely holding them.

The reason for complete grasping is also that limitless afflictions and near afflictions, together with their habitual tendencies, obscure the essence of sentient beings. Because these adventitious stains must be destroyed, and because great compassion constantly guides the causes that destroy these obscurations, the activity of the Buddhas is indeed continuous. That's it. The method of representing with examples is: In order to understand the six things that are the cause of the continuous activity of the Tathagatas, one should know how to combine the metaphors and meanings in the order as they are. That is, the ten bhumis of the Bodhisattvas are like the ocean, the two accumulations of merit and wisdom are like the sun, their fruit, the great Bodhi, is like the sky, the realm of sentient beings to be grasped by Bodhi is like a treasure, its stains, the afflictions, are like clouds, and the great compassion that destroys them is to be understood as like the wind. That's it. The combination of metaphor and meaning is: Because it possesses the water of stainless wisdom and the jewels of qualities such as clairvoyance, the ten bhumis of the Bodhisattvas, which are the cause of definite arising, are like the ocean. Because it benefits and brings happiness to all sentient beings and benefits them, the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, which are the cause of close manifestation, are like the sun. Because it is vast by pervading everything and profound by being without beginning, end, or middle, their fruit, the great Bodhi, is like the realm of space. Because it possesses the nature of perfect and complete Buddhas, inexhaustible wealth of qualities, and abides as spontaneously established from the beginning, the realm of sentient beings to be completely grasped, the essence of the Tathagatas, which is pure by nature, is like a great treasure. Because it is any arbitrary adventitious thing, does not pervade the nature, and is not established as truly real, therefore, the obscurations of the realm, which is pure by nature, the afflictions, are like thick masses of clouds.
