and comparing with examples. The explanation of the actual meaning is divided into two parts: the eighteen distinct differences that are unmixed, and a further explanation of their functions and how they are attained. The differences are twofold: explaining in detail separately, and summarizing and explaining others. The detailed explanation is divided into four sections, of which six are included by conduct (129): demonstrating that the Buddha's body, speech, and mind actions are free from perversion. That is, previously, during the stage of learning the path, for sentient beings who have lost their way, guiding them without error, etc., through habituation, ultimately upon becoming a Buddha, there will be no errors of being completely occupied by the three poisons, such as offerings and pursuits. This is one uncommon action of the body. Previously, vowing to be without disputes and abandoning lying and nonsensical speech, etc., therefore, there will be no clamor of disputes and jokes, etc., being completely occupied by afflictions. This is one uncommon action of speech. Previously, having become accustomed to the six recollections, therefore, the teacher Buddha will not have the decline of memory of forgetting past events. Previously, having become accustomed to protecting the minds of others, etc., therefore, one abides single-pointedly in samadhi, and there will be no unequal mind of being distracted in the subsequent attainment, etc. Previously, having become accustomed to abandoning the perversion of mind and consciousness, etc., therefore, there will also be no various consciousnesses that hold samsara and nirvana to be of different natures. Previously, having become accustomed to the equality of self and others and the equality of existence and peace, therefore, there will be no equanimity of neglecting and abandoning even when the disciples' time has come, due to not having separately examined them. These are the four uncommon actions of mind. The six included by realization are: demonstrating that the Tathagata's (130) power, possessing the place and the fruit, will not have the decline of what has not been attained. That is, previously, through seeking profound and vast Dharma, etc., there will be no cessation of the lineage of the Three Jewels, and no decline in the desire to benefit sentient beings. Previously, through the habit of relying on the guru and maturing sentient beings, etc., there will be no decline in the diligence of taking joy in benefiting others.

Having previously cultivated mindfulness and close placement of mindfulness, etc., the memory of seeing all dharmas as they are is never lost. Having previously been insatiable with the food of Dharma, thereby generating the three wisdoms, the wisdom of discriminating dharmas is never lost. Having previously abandoned busyness and cultivated yoga and liberation, etc., in solitary places, liberation free from obscurations is never lost. Having previously taught the Dharma for the sake of others' understanding, and having cultivated understanding of the nature of dependent origination, etc., the wisdom of having mastery over all dharmas, the wisdom of the very nature of liberation from obscurations, seeing all knowable things, is never lost. Here, samadhi is not mentioned because it is included within the fact that constantly abiding in samadhi is never lost. In some places, memory is not mentioned, but it is included in never forgetting. In some places, if it is according to the view that everything exists, then aspiration and diligence are made into one, or liberation and the wisdom of liberation are made into one. The three that are included by activity are: uncommon activity, that is, having previously cultivated pure conduct free from deceit and hypocrisy, etc., all the activities of the body, such as miracles, etc., precede wisdom and follow wisdom; having previously abandoned false speech, etc., and cultivated speaking what is beneficial and harmful and in accordance with the Dharma, all the activities of speech, such as teaching the Dharma, etc., precede wisdom and follow wisdom; having previously abandoned all greed, etc., and cultivated correct views, etc., all the activities of mind, such as meditating on samadhi, etc., precede wisdom and follow wisdom, therefore the activities of body, speech, and mind all precede wisdom and follow wisdom. Thus it is said. The three that are included by knowledge are: the uncommon abiding in wisdom, that is, having previously had no doubt that the Buddhas of the past, future, and present have attained wisdom without attachment or obstruction, and believing that oneself can attain it, and oneself and others.
